Hi

I am 71 and have had one hip replacement, the other hip is dodgy and can be painful and I also have a stiff (probably arthritic) back.

Although I do stretches I am (and always have been) inflexible but it hasn’t affected me too much.

In this damp/cold weather however, I struggle riding especially dismounting as I stiffen up after time sat in the saddle.

Can anyone recommend a joint supplement that actually works? I have tried various ones over the years but to be honest haven’t noticed much difference.

i have also had hip replacements and have arthritis in shoulders and hands and have been taking omega 3 capsules, they may be helping as i havent found that the weather has been affecting me this year so far and previous winters i have found the wet weather has made me worse. i take blood thinners so cant take things like turmeric or glucosamine which my friends swear by..

I take a Healthspan product, Joint Plus which is glucosamine + MSM + chondroitin + Vit C. I also take Omega 3 capsules. However I started taking these type of supplements getting on for 30yrs ago when I started to get arthritis in my knuckles. I am positive they have helped me but only because I have used them to maintain my joints not as a painkiller. I am 72 now, have had one hip replacement and do have creaky knees and general aches and pains but I am still looking after my sheep, doing agility with my dogs and generally active. I think I am doing quite well considering the years of abuse my body has taken doing work far too heavy for me and rightly or wrongly I put a lot of it down to the supplements I take as well as staying active.

Interestingly my brothers mix’s consultant told her to take tumaric to help eith her aches and pains (including hip replacement). I must admit I’ve always been a bit sceptical, but she swears by it.
