Hi,

Can anyone recomend a good joint supplement for my 18yo friesian x tb.
He is a good doer so always carrying a little extra weight, which isn't going to be helped this winter as I'm out of action for the next 5 months. he doesn't show any signs of stiffness and I want to make sure this continues so looking at starting him on a supplement to help his joints. I know you can just feed msm but would like to know if this should be given in conjunction with anything else or is there something better out there?
Thanks in adVance :)

I have a 20 year old friesian x tb, i used Doddson and Horrell Mobility but found I got through it too quickly. I discovered GWF nutrition Joint Plus as Paint me Proud said and have started him on that. Should last longer too. He occasionally gets a clicky back leg but nothing major. Have not used it long enough yet to comment, only been few weeks but I like what it contains and seems good in theory. I also feed apple cider vinegar which helps joints.

Not a supplement as such but I am now giving my mare top spec joint balancer after years of feeding a powdered supplement as crafty thing would leave some in bottom of her bowl. It's definitely improved her stride length & hocks aren't clicking anymore. Works out about same as supplement though don't give her hard feed on top as has all she needs in it. She's a 16 welsh d & looks fab on it.

I can't recommend Hack-Up's bespoke joint supplement enough! It's worked wonders on my boy, completely transformed his way of going as his trot and walk are much more free and forward going and he's not rushing to get into his easy canter.

Basically you give them all your horses details and they make a supplement that caters to their specific needs. Alex is lovely to talk to and will try and help you with anything you're uncertain about as long as your honest about what your horse is like. Plus you can change to specifics of the supplement in your next order if your horses way of going changes.

I started my 15 year old hanovarian x mare who has OA in her hocks, hind fetlocks and her SI on maxavita maxaflex after trying aviform and TEN challenged joints. I noticed a huge difference in her after starting her on maxaflex. It is trial and error, as I have tried a few, what works for some may not work for others. Good luck and I hope you find something that helps :-)

I am also using a Hack Up bespoke joint supplement and we are on Day 8 I think and I'm positive I can see some results. Her slipping stifle is improving - she hardly did it at all this morning and felt happier in herself. We have a few other problems we need to get sorted out but I think this is really helping which is one less thing to be worrying about!!

Thanks for your suggestions, I'm going to Google them and see what I think. I like the idea of the bespoke one. Shall have a chat to them.
