My 18 year old TB has been on Corta Vet for the last year or so but I now need to change him to something different due to finances (was previously covered by insurance).

He has navicular and arthritis in his hocks. Some days he looks great, works well and feels fab, other days he can be a bit stiff and is obviously feeling his age so to speak.

I'd like to put him on something to help but have no idea where to start!

What can you recommend?

I've always prefered Cortaflex (EA) to other off the shelf joint supplements. It also works out very reasonable when compared to others as you only feed a tiny scoop a day. Mine don't have navicular so I don't know about that one but my arthritic girlie does well on it and rarely feels / looks stiff.

I don't have any experience of navicular but my late gelding had a very busy life hunting and competing before I got him, and was very stiff and creaky. I tried a lot of joint supplements which made no difference, then put him on the standard Cortaflex which improved him ever so slightly, but not by much - I then spoke to the people at Equine America and they recommended Cortaflex HA - within a week he was a changed horse! I could not believe the change in him, he'd gone from shuffling about to bouncing on rides and running around the fields with the others, it was lovely to see and his movement improved significantly. I think it's a bit trial and error with supplements, but I would definitely recommend giving the Cortaflex a go as it made such a huge difference to him and was worth every penny. I think in your case I would try the Cortaflex HA, as the cortaflex is to prevent joint issues, the HA is for existing ones so would be more effective.

i have been using synequin for almost a year and a half now for a 16yr old with chronic DJD. while i didn't see massive improvements to start with, his joint health has improved massively and looks for more comfortable so much so his has gone from being retired to light work. The glucosamine levels are significantly higher than in most off the shelf brands.(i spent ages comparing different levels when the insurance stopped paying) I would certainly recommend it however be prepared for it to burn a hole in your pocket!! @ £129 its not cheap though does last me 4-5 months.

I used to use premierflex which was good but changed to suppleaze gold. It's also good stuff and the biggest pot lasted me absolutely ages in comparison to other supplements-and I had two horses on it.

Cortaflex - Very good and 4 months supply lasts a lot longer than suggested on the tub, lasted me about 6 months! So very good value for money and seems to work well. :)
