I'm thinking of putting my girl on a joint supplement and wondered if any of you use one and if so do you use it as a prenventative measure or because your horse is having problems?

What supplement would you recommend - thanks

I used Flexylimbs on G a couple of times as he tended to get clicky while he was growing (i'm fairly sure he's stopped now...).

It didn't do any harm but i'm never 100% sure if it did any good either. There was improvement but it could just as easily have been the end of the spurt.

I started to do "proper" dressage 2 years ago with my TB, who was already 12. We got to a stage in her training where she was being obstructive, I did not know if she did not understand, or had a physical problem. I got her a tub of Equine America Cortaflex and within a couple of weeks, she got over the training blip and moved on. I kept her on the supplement. Last month I stopped using it because I bought a Feed Balancer and the company told me that I did not need to give her Cortaflex too. Within 3 weeks, my horse went through another difficult phase and was struggling with her canter work. I thought it was a riding problem, but I put her back on the Cortaflex and in 2 weeks, she was over the problem.

I have to conclude that although she has never been lame or unlevel, she seems to find the dressage work easier when she has the joint supplement.

I'd recommend Aviform Gold - my mare's been on it for a couple of years and it's very good. And they have a buy 2 get one free at the moment which is always good!!

I find NAF Superflex brilliant. I use it for my 2 veteran ponies (both getting stiffer nowadays, one has athritis which my vet said Id need to bute her on her "bad" days but actually on Superflex Ive never needed to so far and pony is cantering around!). I also use it on my main competition horse simply as a preventative, but somehow it stopped him being cold backed. For 3 years he was cold backed even though Id had his back and saddle etc. checked on a few occassions with no probems, within 2 months of being on Superflex he improved dramatically and has been fine since! Hence, I never plan to take him off it.
