Our elderly pony is in his late 20's / early 30's, really really doesn't look or act it (at all!), but he's starting to get stiff and does hobble about at times, so I'd like to give him something to help. However - this is easier said than done!

He's the fussiest eater on the planet, if anything is sneaked into his food and detected he will go on hunger strike and not eat anything for days at a time and end up making himself very ill - he still won't eat apples after a tablet was put in one over a year ago.
As he's lami prone, I can't disguise various powders and potions with anything like molasses. Sneaking it into sugarbeet doesn't work either. He does have the tiniest sprinkle of pony mix (just so he'll eat something!) with his sugarbeet and lite chaff, but it's not enough to tempt him to eat it if a supplement is added on top.

I'm just wondering whether any of you with ridiculously fussy eaters have managed to find a joint supplement that they will compromise on? He won't touch global herbs (though can't say I blame him), wouldn't touch cortaflex or superflex, won't touch kentucky joint supplement (which is apparently caramel flavoured so you'd think it would appeal...) I'd be very grateful for any suggestions - trying every one i come across is starting to cost me a small fortune! x

What about adequan? Since its given by IM injection so you won't have that issue, plus its way more effective...

Coming from someone who has to feed bute in a mashed up banana mixed with molasses....I have my boy on suppleaze gold, eats two scoops happily with a handful of molasses free chaff :)

just had a thought -most arthritis in oldies is actually cushings so maybe a blood test would be an idea and get him on treatment then he wouldnt need the supplements

Thanks for the replies everyone - unfortunately he's near impossible to syringe (has always associated it with wormer and he's a very strong little man!!) so that's probably not going to be the easiest thing to be doing every day unfortunately!
He does have cushings and is on medication for it, but although he is much happier in himself, it hasn't helped with stiffness etc - to sneak the tablets into him we have to grind them up & sprinkle them on his mix which seems to be working for now.
Will try the suppleaze / equivits as those are ones we haven't yet attempted! I haven't heard of adequan before, I'll do some reading up on it - thanks all x
