Can anyone recommend a good joint suppliment for my Mums horse please. He is about 19 or 20 I think and a TB.
My farrier commented on how incredibly stiff he was this morning, so I thinking he could maybe do with something abit extra in his feeds.

Thanks
MW

we use newmarket joint supplement on our TB mare whos 17 this year (Jan 1st

) she isnt too stiff but as shes played polo most of her life, and raced before that she does need it... works really well for her...vet reccomended it... has really helped her...!

I use cortaflex (although my horse isnt old!) as a maintanence but the older horses on the yard (20+) are also on cortaflex. If you are friendly with your vet - why dont you give them a call to see what they can recommend.

Equiflex! Used to use Newmarket Joint Supplement, but equiflex worked out alot cheaper and had same effect. It is the glucosamine in it that helps with the stiffness.
Used to use Devils Claw, not sure it worked though.
Also bioflow boots on horse - i believe these helped too.

Cortaflex! I tried all the cheaper alternatives but none of them worked, but Cortaflex was worth every penny. Ronnie's on it too, and he's only 5

Give him a hug from me.

I use Cortaflex on my hunter who's arthritic and has spavins forming.. not the cheapest but the others I tried didn't come close in terms of easing her stiffness.

The best 2 supplements currently on the market if you actually compare the quantities of active ingredients and price are Riaflex complete and Suppleaze Gold.

NAF Superflex.

My boy is 28 this year and back in the summer he started to stumble a bit out hacking - since having him on Superflex he has stopped any stumbling completely so it has definitely worked for him, seems like it was bit of stiffness that was causing him not to pick his feet up properly!

Linseed powder which you can buy in large tubs as it is an anti-inflamitory. It is available from Simple Systems or Cambridge Formulations. I give my old horse bute before the farrier comes so as to make her more comfortable.
