I can't remember who it was but someone a while back posted their comparisons of the various joint supplements on the market and the relative quantities of Glucosamine in each one. I did a search but couldn't find the original post. Can anyone remember which supplement came out best or even better which forum member did the comparison?

If you go on premier flex web site the info is on there. I use to use cortaflex but use premier flex now as a few on here reccomended it and it does come out on top with quantities

Oh thats really interesting Bluenred! Just googled it and found the comparasons. Does the dosage depend on the size of horse though? My chap is 17.1 so always has the higher amounts and I find some quote on pony amounts to make it look like it lasts longer

I used to feed one scoop of cortaflex a day so i have started at that if i notice a difference then ill increase. She does get stiff in the winter not so much now but as she competes i feed it all year round. I was going to try the other product you mention but lots reccomened this so thought id give it a try first.

My mare is 16.2hh hannovarian Between WB & TB build i suppose

ah ok thanks - and how long does your tub last on that dosage? Sorry just trying to see if I should give it a go coz although Riaflex is good its also pretty expensive on his dosage and if I can find something thats as good but cheaper then I have found my perfect product

a tub lasts about 3 1/2 month- 4months longer than cortaflex and is £44.99 per tub. I spent ages working it out and if this stuff is as good it will save me approx £12 a tub. It works out cheaper than the riaflex too. and seems to be same sort of stuff. I hope so as cortaflex has kept my mare competing but is expensive but i have to use what works so fingers crossed

thanks so much - thats really interesting to know. Ill be giving it a go once my latest pot of riaflex has run out!

Could you post a link? I tried googling but haven't found a comparison chart. I'm particularly looking for a comparison with Cosequin, which is the supplement I'm using at the moment.

Cortaflex does not have any glucosamine or condrotin in it at all if you read the label it says that it has the small sugars that build these things, (so it is just sugar powder) the only active ingredient is MSM which is a anti-inflamtory, so it does nothing at all to help the cartalage in the joint. My boy has had sugery on his stifles and he is on Coseequin which is very expernsive from this country but I get it sent from america and it 100 (ish) pounds for over six months on the maintence dose. The vets told me I would never ride him again but he has been on this stuff since his surgery and has been sound since (touch wood) and I took him off for a month and the vet made me put him back on it straight way!!!!! sorry to go on for so long!!!!!!

Also have you looked at Synequin? That's very good; our vets rate it as one of the best as they have had the best results on it. Cheapest place I found it here is http://www.wormers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Feed_Supplements_26.html
