I've been giving my horse (with broken neck) Horslyx Mobility licks, which he loves, but I'm wondering if I should be giving him any other supplements in the long term for:

1. joint mobility
2. arthritis prevention
and also
3. general immune system support

Cost is relevant but the deciding factor is effectiveness.
Suggestions greatly appreciated!

And if anybody happens to know where I can find really good quality hay in Gloucestershire at the moment I'd be very grateful! My yard feeds haylage mostly and the (last year's) hay currently leaves a lot to be desired.

NAF superflex is incredible. My old PC eventer/mothers hunter is 18 at the moment he is out in the field 24/7 and looks incredibly stiff. In the winter he is fed superflex as well as being hunted twice a week and did not had a single stiff day despite being stabled overnight. It does seem to make a real difference.

My mare with broken withers, not specifically given for that though, and coffin joint problems is on cortaflex HA and ASU Joint supplement, which is Avocado Soybean Unsaponifiables oil, on advice from the vet?!

Discussed joint support with top competition horse vet recently and he said only Cosequin, Synequin or Newmarket supplements have any clinical evidence that they work on joints? Just repeating what I was told before anyone tells me I'm wrong!

I have been feeding Maxaflex to my arthritic fella foe just over a month. He was very reluctant to pick up his hinds but now picks them up quite willingly. It is not a miracle cure by any means but seems to be working for him.

previously used Newmarket Joinet Supplement, but found VetVits Equiflex to be as equally as good but half the price. Anything with glucosamine in is good.

flexadin made by equistro is fab - used all of the above and more and never had such great results as I do with flexidin - get it off an internet pharmacy for £75 and lasts me about 3 months (and my horse is 700kg!)

tracey01 - who knows?! Miracle.

Thank you very much for these suggestions. Any other endorsements/recommendations welcome!

The Horslyx Mobility has glucosamine and MSM in it, but I'm not sure how much compared with other supplements.

So far:
NAF Superflex
Cortaflex HA
ASU Joint Supplement
Cosequin, Synequin or Newmarket supplements
Maxaflex
Flexidin

I'm off to research all these now!

I worked for a company which makes one of the above (not saying which, not that it matters) but all the studies say that you need both Glucosamine and chondrotin. So that leaves Cosequin, Synaquin, Naf Superflex or the Vetsvits one.

On cost I think The Naf is the best and its what im about to start feeding my girl. The Cosequin and synaquin are good if you can get the insurance to pay.

Any questions please feel free to ask

NAF Superflex every time, all the vet ones, the vets only recommend cos they get a MASSIVE commision by selling them!

Superflex has worked wonders on my two, one with a spavin one with weak stifles. It contains MSM Antioidents, Chondroitin, HA ,Glucosamine. Basically its got the lot.

I get mine on line from 1stforsupplements.com who are BRILL fast delivery (free) plus very good prices!

Highly recommended!

That's great - thanks everyone!

I am keen to give him what's best for him, with cost a secondary consideration, so if the Cosequin or Synoquin are definitely better then I'd be happy to pay more. Any thoughts on just how much better they are?

Looks like the NAF Superflex is up for experimentation first anyway and we'll see how we get on with it.

well I use Cortaflex Ha Liquid for all mine, I find the liquid is much better than the powder - a faster reaction.

I personally feel that its done wonders for my old boys joints and highly recommended - its expenisve but worth it.

I buy all my supplements from supplement solutions online - really competitve prices
