Joint Supplements - your experiences please.

LL, better than was but not quite 100% yet, been hacking out for a few weeks now and going to see the chiro shortly incase there is any compensation stiffness affecting him, if no better for a couple of weeks work vet thinks will try injecting again to sort this last little bit.

I'm giving my 19 y o slightly arthritic boy Equimins flexi joint and it has worked wonders. He is sound, fit, off bute (has been for over 6 months having been on it at low doses intermittently for some time). He has been cleared by my vet to hunt and had a great season. I took it very slowly building fitness up and he looks better than ever and is a lot smoother in his action. I have not tried any other supplements for joints other than this one. Good luck finding one that you feel works, it's a minefield out there. My vet advised me on which one to use.

I have tried a few over the past 2 years. My veteran gelding can be a bit stiff.
Started him on Riaflex about 2 months ago and it seems to be the one that works. It took about 3 weeks on the "load" dose to show affect. He is on the maintenance dose now and has been moving so well I am actually considering competing him low level dressage again

Lots to read again, and all interesting.

Have been told she is swinging through her right hind, and that there is a slight issue with the right hock. Back lady watched a video of her doing her dressage, and when pointed out to us, you can see her right hind does not have the same consistent footfall that her left hind does. She also struggles to maintain canter left and foes a bit four time, which fits with the right hind diagnosis. Saying that, it is only a very slight swing through the right, but it has been over time, as she is off loading onto her left fore, and this is evident due to muscle built up, and you can notice it when feeling her chest muscles. It's not serious, and that is why it is better to find something that suits her now, rather than a few years down the line.

Vet was out at the yard today so discussed it with her, and she gave lots of very thought provoking advice. She says she prefers the maxavita, but it all depends on the horse and how they react to different substances.
She did say to avoid the rosehips though as they are fattening, and anything with a high oil content as it will put weight on, and K can survive on fresh air!!

Again, thank you all.

holtons hollywood,

vetvits and cortaflex don't have any HA in them. http://www.vetvits.co.uk/horse-supplements/equiflex/productdetail-p15877-c3184.aspx I think it is the chondrotin and glucosamine that is smaller molecules. Presumably it is not v easy for the consumer to tell this though!

You can get both brands with HA included in them. Although the amount of glucosamine/msm/chondroitin/HA int he cortaflex is very very very low. It's not as 'big' as it once was, apparently.

I cannot rate Simple Systems enough... they do a product called Joint Eclipse which is absolutely amazing, and I would strongly recommend trying this before anything else!

www.simplesystem.co.uk

They are so helpful and would be more than happy to talk it through with you. Their products are 100% natural with no binders, fillers, or animal by-products, and they are the only equine feed company to have all their feeds registered with the Vegan Society.

Worth a look! I've had great results with mine.
