The mare I have on loan for OH gets loads of supplements as she's 19 and can be a bit stiff behind and can be a bit footy. I just carried on giving her exactly what she was being fed by her owner although what everything is for is beyond me. All I know is that it costs me a fortune every month!

She the gets the following per day
1kg D&H 16+ mix
1 handfuls apple chaff
3 measures biotin
1 measure selenevite
big glug cod liver oil
3 squirts soya oil
1 measure garlic
1 measure Mudgard.

there are sooo many on the market - I'd just look for one with a good dose of glucosamine and MSM, our regulars say it really makes a huge difference, but I can't say personally as ours are still young.

Cortaflex powder worked on my last neddy and also the one for dogs is doing wonders for my retriever. Apple cider vinegar is also known for being good for joints, arthritis etc and is cheap so he was on that too and that with the Cortaflex seemed to really help in especially in the colder months when spending more time in etc.

I work at a retierment home for old horses adn we use Gluco-Flex from farm and stable supplies or Arthri-Aid both work really well.

Livery next door was using coraflex for months and saw no change, then she decided to try pure glucosimine and within a few weeks there was a huge difference in him, she's sticking with that.

there has been a lot of mixed results with the joint sup powders and research in human and equine marketed supplements have shown that they don't all contain as much as they say and can be very variable in their concentrations

research has shown that you need to feed a high level of glucoamine and make sure you feed it every day (in combination with chondroitin sulphate to get the best result). so its best to find a sup with the highest levels - there are new ones out all the time!

NAF Superflex definately. Have tried cortaflex, didnt do anything for mine. But Superflex - wow! The difference in one of mine (who wasnt even stiff! I just began it as maintenence) is amazing! And the bigger tub lasts ages, after the initial 'loading' period of a week its only 3 (tiny!) scoops a day. WELL WORTH IT!
