Right. Got a 20 year old NF who's still out regularly competing (although I'm very careful about ground etc) about 2'6-2'9. Ridden most days in the school holidays but not very often in the week in term-time as dark so early! He's currently on Equiflex by vetvits. Thoughts? He can still come out very stiff, especially behind. Should I keep him on this or switch to something like glucosamine? What the best thing to do?! Cheers

I use Cortaflex by Equine America. My friend has a 23 year old pony and she used to use EquiFlex but now she has upgraded to the Cortaflex too, her pony has a locking patella, it does not fix it, but it seems less of a problem.

I use Feel Good 30 Joint & Relief from Day Son & Hewitt - got boswellia and devils claw as well as glucosamine & MSM.

It has the equivalent effect of 2 sachets of bute for my old hunter with arthritis

costs about £25 for a month's supply for him - would cost less for someone smaller

I use Equiflex by VetVits too and my vet endorsed it. I also look after a mare who has NAF Superflex and thats good stuff too, spoke to the NAF rep who was at a saddler I was at one day. He also said that a lot depends on how much of the product is made of pure ingredients which apparently Superflex is. Some of the others and Cortaflex is included, have a lot other ingredients in that bulk them up eg dextrose which is sugar!

box of frogs....I'm on cosequin and agree it does work very well but has the price tag to match....I'm lucky that my insurence are still paying for it atm
Very good stuff though... you cant beat it

Think I may stay on Equiflex then, as not a huge budget to spend on supplements and just so long as other people reckon it works, as I know that half the stuff out there's just a load of powder with a magic label on lol! x

I think its a case of seeing what works for your horse. I have tried everything for my arthritic horse and the only thing that works is double dose of superflex (i.e. recommend daily rates of glucosamine etc). Even Mobifor (considered the vet strength version of superflex) did nothing.

The Equiflex did absolutely nothing.

Riaflex, Synequin etc, all nothing.

However, other people have found that synequin or NJS works - it is trial and error.

another vote for aviform supplease gold, i use this along with a couple of their other products & think they are brilliant!
