Ages ago I said I was going to meet Josephine Pullein-Thompson; I did (it was great), and the resulting interview is here .

I also interviewed Gillian Baxter (who wrote Jump for the Stars, amongst others) and she has written a new book. It's called With Vacant Possession? - and is aimed more at adults than children. It doesn't yet have a publisher, so what we have done is put the first 2 chapters here , and we would really, really appreciate your comments on it. Obviously if people like it, the more who say so, the more the chance of the book seeing the light of day!

I really like it. I think the horses in it are portrayed really well, and I am desperate to find out what happened next!
 
Thank you for that, Jane, I loved her books and reading your interview felt rather like meeting up with a long-lost but much-loved friend.

Oooh you lucky thing! I got excited at the weeked because I found G Bs Ribbons and Rings in my local PDSA for 50p and it's one I hadn't ever read (along with Tarmac and Tan). I loved all the Bobby, Guy and Shelta books - I still have them in my loft.

I shall have a read of your JPT interview and the chapters when my boss has gone to the doctors this arvo!

Wow! I loved her books, and her sisters'! In fact, only the other day, I was thinking of 'Riding with the Lyntons' and remembering what a great story it was and how I read and re-read it over and over. I grew up in suburban South Africa, so the rural English setting in her novels was so exotic for me!
I wrote her a letter when I was a kid, saying how much I enjoyed her writing and she wrote me a really kind and charming and encouraging letter back. That was about 20 years ago and I still remember it with warmth.
Thank you so much for this - I feel like I'm reaching back into my childhood!
 
Well that's it - I'm hooked now and want to know what happens. She does have a way of pulling you into her stories -whether they are for children or not! Big thumbs up from me, wonderfully descriptive as ever, I do hope it gets published and I don't forget to buy it

Wasn't it called Tan and Tarmac - about an inner city RS?

God, I must have read every pony book written by anyone way back when. Even one by a Lady Kitty Ritson of all people! Think it had an Arab in it caller Omar or Ahmar.... I wish I had kept them as my daughter is horsey and might have enjoyed them.

They got up to an awful lot of non PC and health and safety contravening things under the direct instruction of the archetypal DC. Most of it bareback if I remember rightly........
