Just wondering what people think about these jackets that have various protection pads in?

http://www.joy-riderz.co.uk/horse-riding-jackets-with-protection/

I could do with another jacket anyway and having a smashed elbow I would be keen not to damage it again as it is still not up to full flexion 5 months on, and I think it would boost my confidence on the roads as I feel really vulnerable.

I like the idea of wearing a body protector out hacking as tarmac is hard! I kind of think I'd be more likely to hurt myself in a road accident/fall on tarmac (since I appear to be accident prone these days) than I would doing XC or anything like that!
I do have a BP but it is a bit old style so I don't really like riding in it, I haven't tried it with new saddle that actually fits me but it has previously banged on the back of the saddle which was annoying.

I could just get a new BP but it won't protect my poor mangled arm!

How thick is the padding? Does it make you look the size of a house (not that it matters I suppose)?

Did you all get them online? They have them on eBay for 99 pounds but only ladies medium and child sizes I think. I would like to try one on!

We got ours on line. They are quite slimline for such things, nicer than the bodyguard ones, slimmer fitting and it better.

A young lady on our yard bought one of the inflatable jackets (sorry, don't know the correct name) after she has a very bad fall. It has a string which attaches to the saddle ring and when you part company with the horse the pull on the string causes the panels to inflate. She has since had another fall and the jacket did its stuff. She swears by it especially if you have a horse "with a mind of its own". It's more comfortable as the inflatable panels remain deflated until required.
