Turfed her out this morning as usual for her to go to the loo. Heard her come back in and have a shake so presume she had been. Go out to the kitchen to find that she's actually done everything on the floor. This has happenend a few times when it's been raining and I'm really annoyed with her. Whats the solution - she is only 6 months old but pretty much house trained. Should I just shut her out there for a bit?

JR's hate the rain. Not only are they difficult to house train, but you have to add this in to the equation as well.

Do you actually stand out there with her and praise her when she goes?

She stays out till she pees. Sorry but you cannot mollycoddle them they have to know that they wont melt just because its raining.

We have a collie who detests wet weather (and baths) and she learnt very quickly to rush out, squat and rush back again!

We made a very big effort as soon as she peed and came in, to wrap her in her towel and give her a good drying off and a massive cuddle and a chat. This 'reward' is her incentive to get the job done quickly!

You are right. She is very sneaky and will go round the back of the sofa (we have one in the kitchen and go) rather than risk possible melting! She starts to shake even before she's been outside, at just the thought of it!

She always get loads of praise when she goes in the right place (and I happen to be there and see her) and on a good day will keep squatting to get more praise even once she's finished. Daft mut ! x

I'd stay with her until she's gone even if it's raining esp as AmyMay says JRs are more challenging to house train.

I'd also advise you don't praise her if she squats and doesn't wee - my oldest JR will now squat so that I think she's weeing so that she can come in faster - only I've got her sussed now!! But she's 6yrs old and wouldn't wee in the house.

I have the same problem with my weimaraner, i have to stand outside with her or she will just come straight back inside, she wont 'go' on the grass if it is more than an inch long neither.

LOL - if it's raining at night when we put the dogs out we always have to lock them out for ages because they shelter in the shed until we open the door then run straight back in and sleep with their legs crossed

LOL a cunning JR trick, my lad went through a phase of refusing to go out without a coat on!!! He also had my dad so well train, dad would trot round the garden in the rain holding a brolly over my JR to keep him dry!!!!

Dad and JR have now been re-educated to the fact that JR's don't melt in the rain!!

My bitch would rather not go than squat in the rain - we even have a patio she could go on, but no, she will jump on the patio table, under the umbrella and go there!!!!!!! (It does have slats so the wee just drains through, but how clever/gross is that).
