What is the difference and could you post pics please of your JRT as a pup and adult.

I really am flumoxed as to what my pup's coat will be like.
The hair on her tail is long, rough, wavy but her face hair is short and smooth. The hair on her back is short but very coarse. She looks like 2 different dogs stuck together!

He sister now has long hair on her face but mine doesn't.

My JRT is 14 weeks old and mainly white with a black and tan patch over one of her eyes.

When did your hairy ones sprout!

Thanks

I have always considered rough and broken coated to be the same, but could be wrong. To me it means a slightly wiry texture and a longer coat, whereas a smooth coat is just that, short and sleek. Hopefully some JRT experts will be along soon to advise you, and no doubt tell me I have got it all wrong.:p

Ive a border x parson jrt

As a pup he was smooth

Gorgeous dog.

I just can't make mine out at all - her bum and tail is quite long and wiry - but her head , face and legs are short

Broken I understand to be a bit hairier than smooth, rough is longer and scruffy but not soft and wire is tighter, coarse hair. I could be wrong though - happens a lot lol!

I'll put pics of mine up later, not got time now got to go back to work :(

Hi,

Here's mine, i think she's probably a 'broken' coat, the white part of her has a 'double'coat with a soft fluffly layer underneath a longer more wirey layer.

When she was a baby she was completely smooth, but by about 4 months you could see more of the long strands of coat coming through...

About 6/7 weeks

Again from the other day (not the best photo but it really shows how her coat is)

She is gorgeous - I would love Boo to have a coat like that but not sure its going to happen.
I will take some photos when I can keep her still enough!

I class broken coated as a longer, and in places slightly wiry coat. Whereas rough coated is long or wiry and smooth is just that.

Roly started off smooth and ended up broken.

I asked my mum, she reckons they're all the same thing :p

When I've hand stripped they look different again, and tidy :p

ETA: it doesn't really matter and doesn't really have any relevance but I aim for a tighter, coarser coat, the litter Jimmy was in is probably the best one I've bred. The others seem to be longer like Mouse's, who's mum is Millie and who's dad is a smooth dog

It's a bit of a mish mash any way especially as you don't necessarily know what's behind them type wise.
