Hi There, new to this and thought it looked like a great forum for honest animal people. I’m looking to home a JRT puppy, or youngish JRT, to become best friends with our 3 year old JRT Manny and add to our family. We’re in Scotland, central belt but can travel within the current rules. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I think you may struggle. Last January (pre lockdown) I was looking for another JRT to live with our terrier who was missing our old JRT lost 3 months previously. I tried breed rescue and dogs trust, battersea etc I even looked at a couple of imported rescues. Without exception the british ones all insisted the dogs went to homes with no other dogs, and no contact with children. We have a 3 year old granddaughter that lives with us some of the time due to parental seperation. The imported rescues didn't have anything suitable that appealed.

I ended up buying a 16 week puppy from a KC registered breeder. She has been a joy though incredibly hard work.
I was looking for a smallish (not tiny) terrier type and not even a "proper" JRT my only stipulation was a bitch as our existing terrier was a dog and I didn't want fighting. I stuggled to find her at that time and now there is a shortage of properly bred dogs and rescues are not yet over run with rejected lockdown pups.

The breeder we used is not expecting any litters this year and a lot of the good ones are delaying due to covid. You might get somewhere contacting them directly as sometimes our breeder has older bitches who cannot breed - 4 years + and now speyed or dogs that have been returned for some reason eg. change of circumstances.
I just rang every registered breeder direct to speak to them and that is how I found her.

Thanks so much for commenting. I’ve been trying rescue centres and having no luck as we’ve already got Manny. We, very sadly, bought a beautiful puppy, when rescuing was failing, and he passed away very soon after. Lesson learnt there, hence trying breeders now and forums like this for real animal lovers. The pain was unbearable and even knowing that taking the dog from the despicable seller gave him the best chance possible is of little comfort for the terrible start to life our baby had. There are just not many breeders to be found online. Even the Kennel Club website is limited in where they can direct you and I’m not receiving replies to my enquiries. We’ll persevere, there’s a JRT somewhere destined to find their home with us ?

I know the breeder we used is not replying to emails as she is getting so many so If you want to contact them phone them in daytime hours. I think at the moment there are plenty of pups on line but unfortunately a lot of them end in a similar way to yours. I am so sorry you have had to have this rotten experience it must have been heartbreaking. However desperate you are please don't put yourself through this again x
If you PM me I can let you know who the breeder we used was but I know she has no puppies expected as she only breeds from her bitches at 2 years and 4 years - so twice - then speys. She might have an older dog available as she has a lifetime return system and does get the odd one back when things don't work out. She is in the east of england so not local to you at all. Not even local to me LOL.
If you want a terrier it might be worth asking at local farms/yards. My first one came from local travellers. To be fair the bitch and dog were pets and were well cared for. The pups went to family except mine and I found her by word of mouth at the yard (farrier).
A couple of people I know have found a dog through Many Tears but I have no personal experience and I'm not sure how covid affects this. Someone else on here may know.

I am addicted to looking on
The freeads sites, Preloved, Gumtree, Pets4homes and Freeads. There are a lot of terriers on there, Lakeland, Borders, Patterdales and of course JRTs. I like the adverts where the mum and dad are shown side on and the pups are photographed as best you can and not being held up in a bunch by children or placed in a plant pot or basket to make them look cute. Also, I rather like the part of the chap you can see in the photo to be wearing 'terrierman' clothing - moleskin and a checked shirt, faded and worn with a few bits of straw!!

There was somebody posting on here for a while who bred KC Reg ones and I think I can remember her kennels name so will pm you that.

I have seen some very nice types on these sites or try going on South West Lurcher and Terrier shows Facebook page and maybe pm a person whose JRT you like the look of there.

I am so sorry that you have had a bad experience with your puppy and hope things work out better for you in the future.
