Just returned from watching a two day show up north with a view to making the trip with my boys in the future . Was astounded watching some of the judges drinking throughout the day . One of them became very abusive to some of the competitors. has anyone experienced anything like this before ?. I am thinking would i be happy being judged by anyone who had had a few drinks ???

I think it is wrong. The competitors deserve better than a judge under the influence. We have had one dressage judge who was very rude and we stopped going to that venue. I didnt vote because dont think it is worded quite right can you change it ?

I had to chuckle a little bit at this sorry but I too was at a 2 day show this weekend where the judge was dancing in the in hand ring during the trot ups to the VERY loud music and the welsh judge seemed to be telling everyone his life story and wondered if it was the same show - I didn't see anyone get abusive although I left early and heard the next day that the sat evening performance went until 2.30 am

i bet you were both at aintree , i am not convinced the drink had anything to do with the judges behaviour he is a nasty piece of work at the best of times unless he likes you hes a git quite frankly which is why people either hate him or love him

Yoted the top choice even though it's worded wrongly - what is the point in putting so much effort into your turnout , round , show routine etc if the judge is three sheets to the wind - totally unacceptable in my view.

There's a line to be drawn, between a judge having a glass of wine at lunchtime, and a judge completely inebriated in the ring, surely?

My thoughts exactly.
A glass of wine with the judges lunch, and perhaps a shot of something in their coffee mid afternoon to keep them warm ;) is (in my opinion) acceptable.

The judge being inebriated is unacceptable. There is a clear line.

Absolutely agree with Tolt and JFTD, and then there are the competitors who are also way beyond merry! Now I too would have to be pickled to team chase, but if you do decide to give it a go, or a hunter trials, please make sure that you are not well under the iinfluence before your round :D
