Jug's (JRT Pug X's)

Best dogs ever!!!! Well, the ones I’ve seen come through rescue have been. Got a face only a mother could love but a lovely temperament.

Don’t pay gazillions of pounds for one though. There’s plenty in rescues but you will have to wait a while I suppose.

It ruins a relatively healthy breed(jrt) for a look.
Placing the terrier attitude and drive in a body that isn't capable of a lot of athletic performing can be a sad thing.
Sometimes you get lucky and get a pug attitude with a face that breathes better though.
Malocclusion is a massive issue and they can often need a lot of intervention/extractions to fix the dental issues if you want a painfree month that is functional...more so then the actual pugs I've found. So worth a very close mouth exam if you decide to go down that route.
Luxating patellas, hemivertebrae Eye issues etc all relatively common. Some of them still have a lot of upper airway issues depending on what degree of brachy they end up.
Your basically only diluting the pug issues not removing them.

One of my least favourite crosses tbh. But unlike everyone else on here I haven't met many good tempered ones!

Personality wise I love Pugs they are great little characters- even though they are complete drama queens about their nails trims...but I have yet to meet one I could actually class as completely healthy. I've had owners tell me theirs was healthy fit able for exercise etc...but clinically it didn't match with what health looks like on their actual exams. They were just coping better with their issues then the majority.
The oldest pug I've ever met was 12 and a half. I regularly see the jrt's and terriers at 15/16

The ones I have met have all been good natured and energetic, but seem to lack the physique to match the energy. They are prone to the same issues as the pug, and I really don't think it's fair to put the character, energy and spunk of a JRT into a suboptimal body.

The cross certainly improves the pug, but it's vastly inferior to the JRT. Plus the name is stoooopid.

Can be yappy, can have the same breathing/mouth problems as the pug, very intelligent and prone to learning bad habits as well as good.

I have a massive soft spot for pugs and crosses (I know this is wrong wrong wrong, but they are the most loving little dogs). I have so far managed to resist the temptation, but it wouldn't take much.....Any pug crosses I have known in person have been healthy, but endearingly naughty ;)

The one at the yard is a yappy, snappy little thing, very territorial. Haven’t seen it’s teeth, particularly. I have seen malocclusion on the majority of the cockacrosses who go to the groomers at the yard.

Known a couple. I love JRTs and quite like the pugs I have known but the cross seems to bring out the worst of the terrier (and I love terriers) with the problems of pugs. Don't think I would go there myself. JRTs come in all shapes sizes and colours and to my mind are a better bet.

Wouldn't have either breed, let alone a cross of the two. Pugs are inherently unhealthy for the most part and , personally, I can't abide little terriers.
Basically an expensive cross....I'm sure you could buy a decent one of either breed for a more sensible price and health tested too.

I have a friend who has 3 pugs, all rescues and does agility with the two bitches. The most recent is 8 but fit and sound and loving its agility. You would think she was much younger. They have amazed me with their athletiscism and willingess to work.

Historically, pugs were far more athletic, game little dogs than most that are bred today. It used to be a bit of a 'thing' for ladies to take their pugs out shooting - not in the same way as proper working gun dogs of course but for bits of picking up etc.

Thank you all for your input, think i will stick to the JRT, as i know where i am with that, but i thing pugs are very charming.

Is it true that a pug cannot swim? and anyone know if it is true why they can't?

they would be able to swim like any other dogs but would be severely compromised by their breathing which would lead a lot of them to sink...

While out walking this morning i was passed by a very fit looking young woman running with her pug on a lead alongside. No breathing noise from the dog who was keeping up effortlessly. I was very impressed!

My friend has one and posts video of him doing agility. He's leggy and small and not sure if he's either just not to breed standard or has something else in there as he has a colour fault. I know he's already had an operation to widen his nose or something.
