Does anyone have any experience of this? The horse in question has had a blocked jugular vein for some time and it has never caused any problems. However, he seems to now have a swelling under his jaw (one side only) which won't go down and has been quite large for the last couple of days.

feed him at head height and massage. the vein will swell if he eats off the floor or has his head low for any lenghth of time. also never let any vet draw blood from that side as it is already damaged. keep him stabled for half the day feeding at head height or above.

Thank you for your reply - I am worrying myself sick and googling the symptons really isn't helping!

He has had a haynet in his stable for the day (and only gets 2 hours turnout a day). I will massage it as you say.

I've decided to get the vet out tomorrow anyway, although it may just be for my own peace of mind more than anything!
