What is everyone up to this weekend? We went for a nice trail ride with friends yesterday, today is a ride at home in the sun, then an early start tomorrow morning for a team penning clinic with Henry. It's our first time and I'm looking forward to it!

Nothing tremendously exciting but I'm going for riding 4 horses in 4 days! Yesterday I took one of my sharers horses (a 16.2 grey ID) out for a lovely hack up over the local hills with some fab canters to quite literally blow the cobwebs away. After work today I'll have a 30 min lane bimble on my own coblet (14.1 skewbald) as part of his rehab following his annular ligament surgery. Tomorrow I've been asked to accompany a good pal, riding her new purchase, (a 15.2 bay ID X) that she's bought for her 12 year old daughter but who hasn't hacked her out yet and daughter is away for the weekend. Then sunday I'll ride my sharers other horse (a 15.2 chestnut TB) and my own daughter will ride the 16.2 ID. Obvs I wish i was purely riding my own little coblet doing more but they say variety is the spice of life!

three of us are currently on fat fighters diets! Me, Ben and Robin. So it's exercise exercise exercise for us this weekend.

I'm going to start trimming Ben up ready for the Royal Welsh (I know he won't be the fattest in the ring but I'd prefer him to be able to move properly and not be hindered by excess pounds) His mane needs shortening and his face needs a smarten up. I'm not going to touch the top of his tail until the weekend before as he tends to itch if I do. But I'll work on the bottom to shorten it a little more.

Robin will be ridden out alone as we're getting quite good at that now. And a little ride in the field if it's not slippy after the rain.

Reggie will probably have another go at wearing his harness and going for a walk. He loves the attention so is pretty easy to do things with, although does get excited easily.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend and avoid any showers.

Baby cob won his e-riders championship section. Over the moon given we've had a tricky 6 months with his right stifle injury. I knew both tests were really nice and even nit picking I thought they should score well - but winning is fabulous. He was also second in the Intro league so there will be prizes 🥰

Slightly over shadowed by his field mate getting out on the rested grass last night and looking very laminitic this morning. Vet thinks it's definitely laminitis so weekend will be trying to work out a plan to keep her off grass, whilst being able to move (PSSM) & see the other two (huge separation anxiety). Annoyed with myself too because I only said to my farrier on Wed I was worried about her crest.

Farrier doesn't think it's laminitis though - but whether it's that or the PSSM the grass is proving too much even restricted.

Yay well done SEL and Baby Cob! :)

No horse plans for me this weekend other than catching up on a couple of vlogs. I am going for another hack next week and volunteering at Barbury CC, then the week after getting round to my e-riders entry while my camera person is on leave from work :)

First ride after 2 months off 🥳
He is now shoeless, sound and moving better than he has for years.
So time to get back to work- a 10 minute walk around the village to start.
He will be sad as I think he was enjoying his mini-retirement 🤣

A bit gutted everyone is prepping for Areas and Regionals as we had tickets for Elementary and Medium but that's horses and in the long term we are much better off than trying to put a plaster over sh1t feet.

I rode up the same bit of road 6 times today because people refused to reverse into the passing place behind them does that count 😅
No plans but D has been in a very sweet mood this week so I might brave taking her out by myself.

I've been/am fence judging at Aston today. The weather has been ridiculous ranging from torrential rain to bright sunshine 🙄 but it's been a good day!

I'll be riding Tris again tomorrow. Touch wood, the work I've been putting into desensitising him to the trains seems to be working. Hopefully this will also help with his opinion of vehicles on the road!

Fence judging has really put me in the mood to conquer the issues that I have around jumping. Would be really nice to get out to some xc hire once he's fit.

Well we survived trying to work cows. Henry lives next door to 2 cows, but he grew about 2 hands when he saw all the cattle in the yards. He was VERY nervous, so the aim very quickly was to get him settled around the cattle. he improved over the session and got very good at moving them around in what he deemed his safe space, but cow horse he is not! He might improve with time, so if I see another clinic I'll take him along. all credit to him, he stayed on side the whole time and I've been teaching him to relax when I drop the reins, which worked yesterday. I dont think he would have coped as well a few years a go and he tried so hard, I was pleased with him!

Fence 8 each time! A corner in the 1* and a box in the Novice 😊 only had one horse refuse all day 😄

Bearing in mind how grim the weather was at times, the ground held up really well! (As you would expect!)
We ended up with fence 8!!

First real test of Lottie’s fitness. Aintree SJ. 4 faults in the 85 qualifiers so I still need 2. But ecstatic with how confident and positive she felt. Turbo Lottie is BACK 😎

Clear in the 80 and experienced a jump off which was fun. A mounted presentation (for 5th) and lap of honour. All new to me - very fun. Lottie was convinced she should be in front though 😅95DC56FC-A680-400B-AA4F-DC7C92E8DB22.jpeg042BEE2D-3BE9-47B3-9116-5284D70077E0.jpeg95DC56FC-A680-400B-AA4F-DC7C92E8DB22.jpeg

Sounds like some great weekends going on! Unfortunately the showers have been pretty heavy here, so got very damp hacking out- it's meant to be July!

I swear I've spent the weekend dodging storms (or not - got hailed on earlier)

I was envious of the crowd heading down to the Cotswold Cup but apparently it was a bit muddy.

I didn't really have plans but wanted to get some rides in. So I rode Friday and today. My 3 year old is making improvements with each ride.

His trot to canter transitions are actually quite nice, and his canter is very rhythmic. He's much better at getting the left lead now. His right hind seemed a bit weaker than his left for whatever reason, but the groundwork I've been doing to help with that has paid off. The trot still feels a bit inconsistent at times, but I rather have "issues" to deal with at the trot vs the canter. A lot of it is just strength, balance, and experience that comes with time.

Today I rode him out of the indoor school, down to a sheep field, turned around, walked past the stables, and then hopped off. It was our first time "out in the open" so I wanted to make it short, sweet, and positive. He felt very relaxed. Even with the wind up our bums.

I think he's in a good spot for just being backed last month. I also only ride 2 or maybe 3 times a week, with breaks or ground stuff in between.

Now I just need to get another horse and rider to ride with. No one really rides much or at all at the yard, but I think I found someone to coordinate with.

BH went to his show. His 2nd BS show.

Because he was a bit green in the ring at his first show, he did 2 X the 'clear round' instead of an actual class. He seemed a lot more comfortable with the idea of a big ring.

I am so lucky to have a friend with a pro yard and her wonderful daughter to ride at shows!

Meanwhile, at home, we have now seeded the field that was dug up for drainage. A few short weeks and he will be home! Right now, I still don't have a field suitable for him.

Meanwhile, Rigs (who only needs a small grass patch) is home and has been out hacking. He is looking well - a bit too well TBH.

A not so cheery update from me. I was away for a long weekend (which was lovely) and had left Chilli with my trainer to see if she could work through his canter issues. After a couple of difficult sessions and a close look on the lunge, the conclusion is he's still struggling with his hocks so I'm picking him up today instead of leaving him there until next weekend.

Next stop is the vet as there are some more interventions we can try, however my gut is telling me it's not fair to push on with schooling as he's having problems at such a young age. Training and dressage are what I really enjoy so I'm not sure where that leaves us - I'll have an honest chat with the vet and do some hacking / fun rides if he's comfortable enough when not doing circles (which he appears to be) then make a big decision over summer...

I had a great time at the Ponte de Lima horse show in Portugal. Was very hot and sunny!

Really lovely, relaxed show and I saw some beautiful horses and riding. The town of Ponte de Lima is also gorgeous, with stunning views and food so would recommend a visit to that town even if not seeing horses.

I have taken way too many pics and videos so made a little highlight reel if anyone is interested :)

Do you know the dates of the festival next year? I've been thinking about going to Portugal and doing some horse stuff as well as chilling and that looks like as good event & location to aim for :)
