Worth their weight in gold or are they very variable? Would be interested to know what personal experiences you have all had. If any!

Thanks, promise this will be my last post today!

Direct experience with 2, both out of different mares of average quality.
First one was completely gutless jumping and very hit and miss to ride
Second one was a nice average allrounder but nothing special

Interestingly both were a nightmare to break (not by me, 2 different experienced people) and both continued to have issues about being mounted, to the point of depositing rider a fair amount.

Both nice looking animals though

I'm ridding a 4yr old Jumbo for someone else at the mo.. i'm not to keen on it, tho i'm sure it might change, as it's very green!! It has no desire to move forwards what so ever at the mo!!

Seen lots and lots of Jumbo offspring due to where I worked last, some are lovely some are not! Some jump and some don't!

I had a Jumbo baby. He was easy enough to break but was too much for me and a real work horse. I sold him to someone I knew who was a much better rider and far more gutsy and she got on brilliantly with him and evented fairly successfully (I think to OI level).

we have got an advanced mare on loan at the moment as a broodmare who is by Jumbo, she was ridden by an amateur and had a fantastic record. She is throwning excellent offspring, got a lovely four year old out of her by Mill Law which so far seems as brave as brass and very scopey, plus a three year old that has had a fantastic career in the show ring so far winning at The Royal, National Hunter Show and East of England to name just a few. The other Jumbo horses i have come across have all been extremely workman like and done a good job

I've got one! Rising 6. She is out of a Grafham Stud mare (where Jumbo is based). She is absolutely wonderful! Fantastic jumping ability, beautiful temperament, bold, careful, forward going. She's quite a lot of horse though - although she's quite laid back I wouldn't have called her a novice ride when she was a baby as she takes some holding together.
Lovely to jump, I've done some BSJA with her and I hope to start BE with her this year. She gets lots of admiring comments and I couldn't be more pleased with her.

I spent time riding a Jumbo gelding which went intermediate as a 6yr old, and advanced 2 years later. Despite great success, he unfortunately did have a quirk of a stubborn streak. This eventually ended his eventing career as he became almost un ridable cross country. His boldness was not matched by his brains, and he would frequently end up in trouble at technical combinations. Having said that, of all the horses I have ridden, if I could pick any horse to have as my own, I would have him! He was beautiful beyond words, he worked effortlessly on the flat and his jump had no limits! If I had a mare to breed, despite the risk of breeding some of Jumbos poorer traits, I would use him in a heart beat, just on the million to one off chance I could breed another Glitz!

well i have to say my mare by Jumbo is the best! she tries her heart out for me,taken me around many PN tracks with my eyes shut, and im a novice rider&very green to eventing!she leads the way,i just sit, shes so brave!she is very loving and easy to do in every way at home too.U cant knock Jumbos offsprings competition record.Jumbo is the best british eventing stallion still standing. Is any horse perfect??they all have quirks of some kind.Just go onto Jumbos homepage to see his and his offsprings records, speaks 4 itself really. All top/good horses have slight quirks, they need 2 be a bit quirky to want to jump those blinking HUGE jumpies.I think the problem with us horsy folk is that we hear of a bad thing/horse or someones bad experience and then its like a game of chinese whispers!! I bred a MORE POKEY horse whos won best BE british eventer last yr,yet my friend who also had the same Sire but diff mare is having a bad time with her horse,it wont jump a stick, yet they both have the same sire(MORE POKEY).Breeding is down to both parents,so mix Jumbos tallent with a good mare, and uv got to be onto a winner!!(u hope so)Good luck in your search Ellax Plus u dont need good breeding to bred a star,(look at madhossy an her little 14.3 pony)but good breeding is ideal if you want to breed from your mare, obv puts value on your stock.

I know 2 full brother and sister. One is gutless went to intermediate with a pro who carried it round, otherwise wouldnt' have jumped a stick. Was so sharp and a complete nightmare to do. His sister did a CCI** and that was her level she was a real common looking mare who was never going to do a flash test or jump a huge fence but pootled round and was easy to do!
