Does anyone have any good ideas for courses within a 60 x 20 arena?

Thinking about dragging the heavy jumps out to have a little course practice but limited by space.
I have a few ideas that I normally do but just want something different to have a play with :)

Thank you!

There are literally thousands of permutations. And you have not said how many jumps you have available, what type they are, if you have any universal stands etc?

Classic basic courses form a figure 8. You can expand that by making the center of the 8 a box of two doubles. You can create a snake type course which weaves in what is basically a double 8. If you have the poles to create all two way jumps you can try a reverse 8 or just reverse the upper or lower loop. If you have a universal stand or a pole type stand which can take jumps from more than one direction you can get more fences into a smaller space. Or you can create a zig zag form where you jump and loop. (Be sure to change the rein its great for turn backs but tiring.) You can also use the gap to create skinnies if you have skinny poles. Or you can opt for versions like the split grid which has a straight line branching off into a Y shape potentially with another fence at the mouth of the Y. You can develop that into an X shape as long as you have enough space to turn safely before the arena fence.

You can get loads of books on course design - I'm sure there are similar guides on line somewhere. If you understand how the course should flow - what type of fence produces what response from the horse - and how to stride it out correctly then experiment!

Hi we have about 7 sets of wings at the moment but a few more being fixed at the moment. We have hundreds of poles. All wooden wings, not universal. And poles are all very long, approx 12ft but thinking of cutting some down to make some skinnies etc.

Brilliant, thanks for those ideas! I will have a play this weekend with some of those :D
I had been meaning to try the 'Y' exercise for a while actually.
