Hi

Was just wondering if anyone could tell me the correct jumping distances for a horse jumping from canter. Am going to be doing gridwork so distances for a bounce, 1 stride and 2 strides would be great?!!

Thanks in advance :)

a bounce would be around 12ft, one stride 24ft, 2 strides 36ft
basically, 12ft per stride and 12ft for take off/landing

ETS above are ''true'' distances, the actual distances you put up depend on what the grid work is supposed to achieve, how big is the horse and how big is its stride

she is 16.1hh tbxwb, when doing canter poles 10ft is right for her.
jumps will only be small as shes not a jumper am only doin it to get her using her backend and hocks more also will be on the lunge as im not a jumper either!!

As a kid we were taught the chant; 2 for a landing 2 for a take off 3 for a pony 4 for a horse. It refers to the number of regular human strides between the fences. So a regular one stride double 7 for pony 8 for horse. Bounce 4 strides. A two stride double 12 for a horse. Quite basic, i'm tiny so I take slightly exaggerated strides lol but useful at competition when u want to know if a double is long or short or get am idea of related distances. I don't have a tape measure when walking the course.
