Jump position thought process

I am new to jumping and am having trouble with finding a consistent position. My leg position is good but my fold is not consistent and I need to fix it. Can someone suggest something specific that I could focus on that would enable me to find some consistency and better confidence please
 
Single jumps or a small grid to start off with - something easy that you know your horse can do so that you can concentrate on yourself rather than your horse. Ask someone to help you find a good jump position when you’re halted, then try and think of those points when you’re jumping. The trickier the exercise, the worse my jump position is because I’m focusing on the horse instead so single jumps can help you get a feel of what you should be doing over every jump.
 
You shouldn't need to think about folding. Simply keep the weight down in your heal and push your bum backwards, allowing forward with the hand. The movement of pushing your bum backwards will put you into the jumping position. Practice whilst you are trotting round the school - its great exercise to build strength.

Exactly this, when you are learning the jumps should be small so any folding will be minimal anyway and if you try too hard you will end up either taking off in front of your horse or being too far forward on landing.

I usually start novices, or people I am trying to correct, by encouraging them to just feel what is happening under them, I use poles in and out of fences and grids so they remain fairly upright and concentrate on the main priority which is keeping their head up and looking forward, everything else will come once the rider is relaxed and going with the movement.
 
Absolute handsdown best advice I have ever had is to think about the position you would take if you were going to squat over a manky public loo for a wee. That is your perfect jumping position, except your hands should be forward rather than clutching your trousers 😂
 
Compress your joints, agree with sliding the bum back (it will feel like you are but you won't be really) and reaching hands forwards as required (ie the bigger the fence the more you need to throw them forwards and the more you'll fold). If you think about compressing the joints you won't "pop" up as so many do.

My instructor makes me work regularly in the 2 point position (which needs to be quite upright) in both trot and canter which has definitely helped prevent me leaning forward too much, although I do still struggle with my lower leg. I find grids helpful too as you don't have time to over exaggerate your fold before the next jump appears!!

I similarly asked a few weeks ago about position, and there were many kind comments about not to beat yourself up about it too much!! :)
 
I'm another who thinks of pushing my bum/hips towards the back of the saddle although I do find the most important thing is to keep a strong lower leg position.
