I'm trying to find a jump saddle that suits both me and my horse. Horse is a gelderlander, with a flat back, medium wither and HUGE shoulder. I am tall, with long legs. The reason we can't find anything off the peg is because he is so broad at the shoulder and my legs are long! Although he's 16.3hh and built like a tank, he's short coupled and can't take an 18" saddle, so we need a 17.5" (meaning I need it to be quite forward cut).

His behaviour can be rather colourful at times! So, I want big blocks, that I can use to lock myself in.... I also want a deep(ish) seat, that's not too flat, and I want sticky/grippy leather.

I'm not asking for too much am I? Any suggestions.

I've looked at K2 Jump, Impala, Nyala, and a kent & masters. The k2 jump seems to fit me the best, but it's not perfect - I don't think it's forward cut enough for me?
It's actually quite difficult trying different saddles. All our local saddlers seem to be agents for Albion and Ideal, but it's harder to find other saddles to view and try, or other saddles that I could get custom made if we need to.

Any advice..

Maybe try a Collegiate? Reg is pretty big/ wide (for a TB though, I think?) and jockey is nearly all leg and this fits them both nicely... It's very similar to the Albion K2 though, only a lot cheaper!

I have a kentaur 'naxos' I think? Was the only one that fitted my big shouldered horse and still have enough room for me (fairly long-legged) I even get away with having it made in a 16.5 seat to fit his super short back!

I have the ideal impala and its saved my bacon SO many times with its big knee block. It kinda locks you down and it stopped me going over her head a few weeks ago xc schooling. The knee cup sits high so suits leggy rider.

Reguarding fit I have a big shouldered flat back warmblood with huge movement who takes a wide saddle and its just the best saddle. I even do a half decent dressage test it in.

I decided on this one over other as at the time she was "interesting" to ride and it gave me more security.

I have a video clip of xc the othe rweek and looking back at it if i hadnt of had the knee cups there she she took a flyer i would have been a gonner on landing. The flat square cantel also is good if your horse is a jump jumper as on occasions i get left behind and i like the fact i dont get too caught if she takes abig one.

Ideal Gazelle/Impala. The Gazelle has a really wide bearing surface for sensitive types, or the Impala is designed for more high withered finer types but both are FAB saddles.

im 5ft 11 with a big shouldered horse and have an ideal impala pro monoflap,

blocks sit on top of flap being a monoflap so dont impede shoulder

i tried the normal impala but horse went better in impala pro

Hi, i'm 5'8, I've got long legs and am partic long in the thigh, with a very short backed horse with a big shoulder. I have a 17'5 butet jump saddle that I love, very secure and can get my stirrups very short with no fear of my knees coming over the front of the saddle, with very flexible knee rolls so lots of room for her shoulder.
Also have an 17'5 amerigo DJ jump that I'm selling that was fine as well, she just outgrew it. :)

I'm long in the leg (particularly knee to hip), and have a short coupled HUGE shouldered horse. We're in a prestige event, with shoulders free panels, suits both of us perfectly. Big blocks, half seat, and calfskin so v. sticky :)
Love it!

I'm 6ft and I have the Excelle Integra Mono flap jumping saddle on my flat backed, big shoulder ISH.
However, I dislike the feeling of being locked in (even on my sharp, spooky mare)when jumping, so it has fairly small blocks and a flat seat. I feel much more secure in it than I do in the Albion K2 I had, because I can move and balance freely.
With it being a CC I can feel her moving under me and react much quicker. In normal saddles now I feel miles away from the horse

If your budget allows, I'd say Butet or Prestige - great saddles and very low profile so fit a range of horses and riders. Passiers also tend to be tall person friendly. Even though people on here seem to have taken against, I still like Stubbens and the newer models are both more flexible and have a wider channel. A step down, I've liked the Whittaker saddles I've sat in.
