I have a young WB who will be needing a new jump saddle in the spring and I’m looking for some brands to discuss with my saddle fitter.

Currently in a Kent and masters GP while gaining muscle. Budget will be depending on what vet bills be kindly gives me over winter but he is about a medium wide has some wither but a nice wide spine. She said a Fairfax might be good. Double flap or mono flap.

Thanks very much.

I just bought a cavaletti monoflap jump for my wb, so far so good.
Albion k2s are quite popular but can be like marmite

I starting using WOW so I didn't have to keep changing saddles as young horses changed shape. I just happen to have a variable block jump in black as new for sale 😆 (That will still leave me with 4½ others! )

A genuine price of string question. I prefer wooden trees, they can be adjusted a little, and use them with Mattes shim pads, rather than changeable headplate saddles with plastic trees. If you trust your fitter I would go with their recommendation as they'll work best with what they know and love. Make sure it fits you and, unlike many jump saddles, doesn't put you way behind your feet ie chair seat.

Definitely this, first find a fitter you can trust and work with effectively (even if you have to ship one in from miles away!). And making sure it fits YOU too is really important.....based on my personal experience 75% of fitters don't seem to realise this is even a question.

Where are you based? There are loads of threads on here recommending saddle fitters.

If you have no preference then I would suggest sitting in a lot. I hate double flap saddles and wide twists. I just couldn’t get on with Fairfax mono at all and I don’t like English saddles because they don’t work for me, so always head for Equipe, Prestige or Amerigo as first choice. I find far too many people have jump saddles which don’t suit them but do suit the horse which is fine up to a point but then you are always fighting it with position and can’t get stirrups short enough.

We have two horses who were very good showjumpers in their day & we treated them to a jump saddle each. The one had a 'Harry Dabbs' fitted , that was about 20 years ago & he's still ridden in it now. The other horse was a 16h3 horse with a tremendous amount of ability & my daughter spend a big chunk of he savings on a Devoucoux. It was expensive but it fitted him well & he still has it now & that was 15 years ago. We didn't buy 'a new one' we spoke to the saddle fitter & we bought his display saddle & got about £800 off,
