Jump wings with measurements on.

Jump 4 Joy, Safety System etc..to have to jump up to height is the cup meant to be on the measurement or is the pole meant to be up the the line?
Sorry for the 13 year old question! I was jumping with SS all last year and certain that I was always over height, instructor now uses J4J and they always look small..

I've got Jump 4 Joy and always assumed that the height was where the top of the pole sat in line with, not where the cup was. I'll be interested to hear what everyone else has to say.

This pole is at the 3' line and looks tiny

i have obviously been thinking wrong for ages because i always thought the height was where the cup was!!! woops! i think someone needs to take a tape measure out to their wings!!

Least you know your practicing over height!!

The difference is only 5cm if your reading from line or top of pole as to get say 1.10 you put cup in at 105

Deffo top of pole because I got a tape-measure out to check! That said, I am yet to attend a BSJA venue where they use the top of the pole - they all put the cup in at the required height (as a bare minimum!).

I do sometimes wonder why they set heights in classes as i'm yet to go to a show where they build to the right height.

I thought maximium meant biggest they can be???

Some BE places, eg Gatcombe, Belton, Longleat, do the same!

At a BSJA show you are quite entitled to query any fence with the coursebuilder and ask for it to be measured

I must admit i've jumped a few classes where they have J4J wings though and the last coule of fences of a 1.15m have been at the 1.20m marker if you get my meaning

I was told by a BSJA Course Builder that a builder can have a leaway of up to 5cm on the fences he builds. So he can build to plus or minus 5cm. I never rely on the heights on the wings when training, I use a measuring stick I made so I know exactly the height & spread I've built.
