I was at a loss of what to do yesterday so I thought I'd go to the quiet sandschool at the back of the yard where no one can see and have a go at jumping. I see all these other people do it no trouble so I thought - why not!?

I setup a jump to just below my knees, hopped on and was ready to go. Only thing is, when I was on her I gulped at the height! (all you 1 meter 60's can stop laughing!!)

I trotted up to it and then lost my bottle and went round it - did that about 10 times! Then I thought sod it trotted her up during which I was so scared I held the reins so tight and short when she did jump it I think I had her ear in my eye!

When we landed I fell into her withers and shouted "f********ck!" and she cantered off with me trying to regain some balance! Oh dear - what a sight I was.

No one saw me thankfully! I need lessons!

Yeh but at least you had a go! Everyone has to start somewhere! Well done!

I know! a ft is allot for me! I have a TB ex-racer who was an ace at steeple chase. You can imagine what she thinks of me!

WELL DONE!!

Everybody who jumps has had their first jump and there is nothing to be embarrassed about, what so ever.

We've either done it on a little on a fur ball shetties, or at a riding school, or are mums or dads have dragged us round a small CR with us clutching on to that pommel, doesn't matter when you do it, how you do it, or how old you are or how high.

Even the professionals still jump small if there training young horses, so keep on pottering over them fences, take your time and you'll be doing it with yours closed lol! ...plus if you'v got a few showjumpers at your yard, why not ask them for a lesson or some guidence...no shame in asking.
