Adrian has been struggling bsja lately as he's been soooooo lazy, so we've been concentrating on revving him up on the flat, then doing some baby jumping classes to get him going again. I've also given up on being subtle with his diet, so he's been on competition mix for the past few weeks.
We went to Keysoe unaff last week & got a very confident 4th out of 24 in the 75 cm, with a nice DC. Went to Lordsbridge this eve to continue the good work.
75 cm - OMG, couldn't hold one side of it, not even with my full strength. Rather random & haphazard round, but by some miracle clear until the last fence. He was on a bad stride & was determined that he knew best, so he stayed fixed on his bad stride despite my best efforts... and stopped.
Had another go & sailed over.
Decided to try the 85 cm, & did his myler combi up another hole. That single hole made all the difference - he was still more than forward, but hold-able. Far more confident, would accept an adjustment to the stride, sprang round clear. In the jump off, there was a tight turn from 1 to the second jump. He went sailing over no 1, & while I was desperately trying to make the turn, he locked onto a random // that was in the way & we came a hairsbreadth from jumping it the wrong way round.
Crisis averted by the skin of our teeth, he then jumped the rest clear...and we won!!!
We're also starting lessons there again which I'm really excited about & prob going to Keysoe at the w'end for some bsja fun. Then if I'm bored of being alive, we *might* do Tetworth Hall HT next weekend as it's only a mile from the house. Walked the dog thru some of the course at lunchtime today & 1/2 got the itch to give it a go.
Not sure what's got into him atm - he seems to have got bored with being idle. His flatwork's coming on a storm - my trainer rode him on Tues & showed me what his trot lengthened strides look like... & there is def something there. Very slight atm, but def there & very correct.
Sorry, rambling, high on adrenaline atm. Thanks for reading!!
