So iv been jumping for about 10 years now i think but i still get really nervous before quite small jumps, i have jumped big and i know i can do it but it terrifies me but in the same way i love its weird?
any way i have just brought a 5 year old mare whos just started jumping with her last owners and i want to continue her training with me but i dont want her to pick up on my nerves what can i do to gain confidence with my jumping. Its not like i don't jump a lot i use to jump every week in my lessons but im still just as nervous.

With a young horse is is so important to be confident, or at least convince them you are, so my best advice would be to find a good trainer who will work with you to build up your confidence, help you bring on your young mare the correct way so neither of you are pushed too quickly and the basics are established, if you start on the right track you should have no reason to be nervous.

Do lots of polework in trot and canter to get you started, gradually build up to tiny grids and don't try anything that is out of your comfort zone until the grids are really "easy" for you both.

Jump regularly - I find if I jump twice or three times in a week it makes a big difference to my confidence over just once a week. Hard to do though if you only have a youngster
