I posted a few weeks ago about my problem jumping my new horse, but I believe we have cracked it! He is such a different horse to Star (add nearly 3 hands and a hell of a lot more horsepower!) and I need to learn what all the buttons do!

Well over the past few weeks we seem to have cracked at least some of the code! I have to be incredibly light in the hand and postive with the leg (opposite of star :P) We havent pushed it height wise, sticking to about 80cm even though when i trialled him we did a 1.20! I want to get used to him and be super confident and have the right technique! I put the majority of the problems down to me, the last 3 years have been filled with accidents so confidence isnt great!

Some exercises to help precision and accuracy would be much appreciated! We did some grid work today and after a sticky start, i really started riding him and he was fab! Such a big smile!

Did you get "101 jumping exercises", the book does not concentrate on height, as technique is all, once you have mastered 101 exercises you will have a very nice horse, and a lot of confidence, I think there is a lot of emphasis on "seeing a stride" and have to admit some show jumpers seem to be able to place their horse to the inch, but normal mortals have to rely on their horses to do the work.

Best thing I've ever heard! So many people I know buy a horse that can jump high with an old owner, then whack the jumps up as soon as they get home. It's like  you barely know the horse yet!!
