How long does it normally take to get a young horse to intro/pn fitness? Was in full work in the autumn but now currently hacking out once or twice a week (courtesy of my mum whilst i'm at uni!) Hoping to do an intro at Kelsall Hill at the end of april.. Does this sound feasible bearing in mind i wont be able to start riding her until mid-feb?
Any thoughts/opinions appreciated!!!
Thanks

Younger horses find everything harder than older ones! Has the horse competed before? It's not "fitness" work as such the horse will need, just consistent work, and getting used to travelling etc so that doesn't take too much out of them. It shouldn't be a problem with two months work, just listen to what the horse is telling you as you go xc, if necessary go round quite steadily. I usually find once they start competing regularly their fitness comes on loads.

Agree, you can have a youngster seriously "riding fit" but find that you're sat on a shattered mess after the SJing at an event as they find it SO mentally tiring, even though they are more than fine at home! Try and get out to just Sjing comps, Dressage comps etc first, and gage from there
