How many people will only jump on a surface or only on grass. I personally don't mind which I'm on. But I know some people will only jump on surfaces. Is this to do with personal preference or are horses becoming a little bit wrapped in cotton wool nowadays. This person I know says it's bad for the horse jumping over 80cms on grass which I thought not really otherwise you wouldn't see people like Nick Skelton and Arko jumping like 6ft fences on it

I don't really have a problem with either, but prefer surfaces because grass can be hard/muddy whereas most surfaces are pretty consistent. (I wouldn't say I was wrapping my horse in cotton wool, it just means less poles on the floor in general)

Depends on the grass, properly looked after grass is fantastic to ride on, sadly there are not many good grass arenas where you can guarantee perfect going. Personally I would prefer to ride on good grass any day of the week but more often than not ride on a surface.

Well, we're really careful with Alice's pony because they jump quite large now so if it's hard or rutted they don't go. I really don't care, because Cheeky pops round on anything!

i prefer surfaces just because they are so consistant and always nice to jump on...grass can be a bit unpredictable and either too hard/too soft and you have to faff about with studs lol.

i dont mind either tbh...but prfer surfaces

my horse is only just getting his confidence with jumping so unless ground realy good (no stud holes at mo.), sticking to surfaces for now.

I much prefer jumping on a surface because
1) I hate studding up
2) My horse is an ex-racer who thinks grass = speed
3) surfaces tend to be fairly consistent & don't get too hard/cut up
but mainly because I like the safety of a permenant, well fenced area!
