Jumping help please from you wonderful experienced people!

I have a id cross connemara mare that is very difficult to fit she is very broad and has huge shoulders but has big withers so isnt your typical table top shape, i have a kieffer gp saddle that i do everything in and i love it, it has a heat adjustable tree so the saddler measures then takes it away and adjusts it to fit, the only other saddle that fits her well is a GFS.
I have never owned a jumping saddle have always used my GP for everthing and have never had a problem.
Edited to add i think he is lovely and i dont think you will have any problems doing some trialblazers with him!!

My dads 20 yr old one is just a Falcon GP (18 inch med), seems to fit everything!! Started of on Morris, the 17.1 warmblood, then onto Murphy the 16hh TB, then Badger 16.3 ISH.

Very comfy too - my mums got a 17 ins one which I don't like, it's too small for me, but the 18ins one is great.

Im looking forward to it (yipee) I think i might be going in a few weeks. . . if i am i will give you a message and see if we could meet up or something

To be honest with you i don't think you’ll get CC jumping saddle to fit and suit both of you, my cob is a similar shape to yours and there just not made for these type of saddles, for the level your doing I would find a nice gp, I have a saddle company dressage saddle for my cob and I do everything in it with him jumping up to 3 ft 6, not saying you need a dressage saddle but there is nothing wrong with jumping in a gp, at the end of the day once ours ass's are plonked in them then for all anyone else can see it could be a £100 maxam saddle, it's how you ride not the saddle. On another note is certainly won’t cost you £2000 to get a nice made to measure saddle.. I’ve had 3 made to measure saddles over the years and none of them have cost me more than £1000... I just thing your looking at the wrong style for you and bodey.

I used to ride my 12.2 jumping pony in a falcon GP about 10 years ago! They are nice saddles. I still love my Keiffer SJ saddle though! Best saddle I have ever bought!

Have you tried any second hand saddles? They have the advantage of already being worn in and you know that's how they will stay. Of course you are limited on choice, especially as he is an xw cob (i meant the saddle not his bottom or tum).

You really don't look secure in that saddle, I think it looks too small for you, both in the leg and the seat. He looks like he could have a longer saddle on him (maybe just an inch?), this will give you more room and put less pressure on such a small part of his back.

Try a few more saddles. New or not you should feel secure in it.

I loved the Albion K2 but it didn’t love Bodey, rose at the back. Also tried a Amerigo also a no go, not designed for a wideeeeeeee cobby! Thanks though!

Not sure if this helps, but I tried an Albion K2 GP on Bob (who admittedly is a very narrow TB, but is also very short in the back) The GP didnt suit him at all, but the Albion K2 jump saddle was fine, and was the one I ended up buying

Lots of people have assured me that the K2 jump is nearly like a GP anyway, and I certainly feel like I can do dressage in it

Thanks, lots to look in too! It’s all so confusing and head numbing, I just want the best for Bodey and something I can ride in, really didn’t think it would be this difficult!

From the looks of those pictures and short video's I would say that for jumping you want a more forward cut saddle as it dosent look that forward cut to me. I cant jump in anything other then a forward cut as I feel unsafe.

Apart from that the jumping looks good, altho agree with earlier comment not sure what the walking around the corner approach is meant to be doing .

Bless him I do like him... you going to do any CHAPs comps on him?

See it’s so difficult because different people are telling me different things. The walking in is just to get him to take me to the jump, get him a bit ‘up for it’. It does work.

I don’t think he is good enough to show to be honest. I tried two local coloured classes this year, didn’t really get anywhere. Plus I know nothing about showing, I just copied the other in the ring, he, he. Don’t know, what do you think?

Have you looked at the Exscelle saddles, my pony was really difficult to fit, wide barrell & no wither. I have a lovely jumping saddle, & my saddler has modified it slightly by adding larger knee blocks, it is not a close contact but a traditional jump saddle, I couldn't ride at all in a CC. I agree with the others about walking & firing, I have had it drummed in to me about getting the canter & staying in a rhythm. He looks like he will be a super little jumper, Trailblazers will be fun. Unluckily for me I can't do it, she's 14hh & I'm a senior, so not allowed, so am aiming for some BSJA Intro instead!! Good luck.

Hey

Can't see the videos but you are doing fine

Bodey will easily manage 1st class and i would think the 2nd class of Trailblazers no problem, you just have to keep him going in his canter as he seemed to jump better out of canter

No clue for the saddle though am afraid

Are you going jumping tonight?

Close contact saddles dont suit everyone, balance really does have to be very good as there is nothing to help you! I love them on most "horses" but I will admit I dont think I could have ridden my cob in one at all, as he had nothing infront of me anyway, so having nothing on the saddle made it all the more difficult!! I had an Albion K2 on him, it lifted a bit at the back to start with, but beeded in and was perfect. He loved it and jumped really well in it too

Jumping wise he is looking great! i do the walk canter exercise too as it helps get more "Jump" in the canter and encourages them to engage. Aslong as you are not getting quicker and quicker into the fence, it is a good exercise!

I WANT YOUR HORSE!!!!

Hope you find a comfortable saddle soon, but if not i'll generously offer to rehome your beastie. He is lovely and you must be so proud of him.
