I did my BHS stage 3 xc in a dressage saddle!!!! I told the examiner I didn't think the saddle was suitable for xc, and the centre said "oh that horse doesn't jump, so he only has a dressage saddle"!!!!!!!!! The examiner asked why we were using the horse for xc, and they said they didnt have another horse available. So went down to xc paddock, and I was sat on a bucking bronco, that wouldnt go near the xc warm up log! The examiner aked if i wanted to swap onto another horse, but I said I would stay on the one I was on (mad things you do in stressful stage exams!) So I set off around the course, horse madly bucking in a dressage saddle. Three strides out gave the horse a sharp smack, and we flew around the course clear! The examiner then had a huge argument with the exam centre due to the unsuitable horse which only went so well becuase "the rider was one of the most determined riders she had ever seen and was far above the level required!" So in the end I was quite pleased I stayed on the stupid horse in a dressage saddle!!!
when eventing my old boy always had to jump a couple of fences before he would settle to do dressage test sssooooooooo!!!!!!!! excited so often jumped in dressage saddle would jump either sj or xc fence which ever was closest to dressage warm up
