Jumping in a dressage saddle???

A stupid question that I probably know the answer to but here goes anyway.

I have tried a lovely Albion Lux dressage saddle on my horse today and absolutely loved it to bits. I felt really secure in it.

I know it isn't the done thing, but I am only going to be jumping small, when I get more confident only up to 2'9.

I rarely jump, but sometimes would like to jump, so my question is that if you feel secure in a saddle do you have to have a GP or jumping saddle to jump or could I use my dressage saddle?
 
Well its not as comfy due to the deeper seat of a dressage saddle but its certainly not a real problem. I've actually been hunting in a dressage saddle as I had nothing else to go in at the time. Had to be a bit careful over some of the jumps with the higher pommel or I would have ended up with very sore errrrrrr bits!!!!
 
I feel very insecure any time I have jumped in a dressage saddle. But it can be done and you might as well have a jump and see how you feel.
 
I am opposite, I feel really insecure in a GP saddle! I must be bonkers! I have jumped in a dressage saddle before and never really had a problem, but thought others may comment or I wouldn't be allowed to enter classes.
 
Really up to you! I've also jmoed in a dressage saddle and for smaller jumps it doesn't really cause much of a problem.
What ever you feel safest in really, as that's the most important thing!
 
I also feel insecure in a GP after riding in a dressage saddle only for the past couple of years. After 10 mins in a GP I ache and I feel perched.

If its comfy for you and your horse, why not!
 
I always jump in my jumping saddle but it's gone away to Barry Swain have the panels changed to fit my new horse, so I've been left with my dr saddle. Have done 2 jumping lessons in it (3 if I don't get my saddle back by Tuesday) and luckily we were only doing grids ie a row of x poles & little uprights. Jumped an upright of around 2 ft 9 to 3 ft, but really didn't feel I was very secure or in a position to be effective if anything went wrong.

Even so, might go sj tomo as I want to see how new horse behaves in a show atmosphere. I'd say my dr saddle would be okay for a clear round / 2 ft 6 class but I really wouldn't want to bsja in it.
 
I like to release my bum over the cantle of a saddle if necessary, so that is why I do not jump in a dressage saddle - BUT I have jumped in my WOW with the dressage flaps on as I have a flat seat

I find it depends more on the size of the knee rolls than the deepness of the seat. I have a Wintec Pro dressage which has a flatter seat (well, than a Wintec Isabell) and removable knee rolls and can jump in that without the knee rolls. My friend's Isabell I find more difficult as the seat is slightly deeper, and can't jump over about 2' without knee rolls removing and sitting half way up the cantle! At work I ride a horse in a Zaldi dressage saddle which I find incredibly deep and has huge straight knee rolls, and there's no way I'd jump in one like that. I tried jumping a small log out hacking once in my friend's Isabell, only about 1'6", but the horse has a bit of a stag leap on her and I really really strained the front of my upper legs! But if you have a saddle you feel comfy in as others have said there's no reason why not!
 
Shouldn't be a problem, my OH has been using a dressage saddle (Ideal Jessica) for everything including 3' s/j and even XC !! He doesn't find it a problem but I've been nagging him for ages to sort out a GP as if he wants to get more into jumping I think a GP will give more support (and I want to jump his horse but don't like jumping in the dressage saddle as my little legs need all the help they can get!

Not quite a dressage saddle, but I always jump in my WH saddle - its very straight cut with next to nothing in terms of knee rolls. I find it very easy and comfortable to jump in, but I dont really jump anything much over 3 foot!
 
I occasionally SJ and XC my wifes little mare in an albion dressage (dont ask me which one) and dont notice and problems. Evented almost an entire season in a VSD (all 3 phases) until I got a wow and didn't have any problems.
