Jumping inside................how many other peoples horses

completely change when doing it? I've only jumped Beau in about 5 Competitions now - 2 on grass and 3 inside, and I am noticing a vast difference between the two.

Outside he really cant be bothered and lumbers about, but inside its like a rocket has been put up his bottom, and he is a lot braver. I don't know if this is due to less distraction etc. He persistently refused at an outside SJ last June, despite the course being only 2ft6 and he cleared a 3fter in he warm up - and I mean it was a really naughty refusing streak.
But then last wed, we did our first 75cm and despite me bricking it as had never been in that situation before he was a complete saint, I couldn't have wished for him to be more honest( in fact tooo honest in that he jumped something when he 'just' managed it so as not to refuse/crash into it and I went flying on landing

)

I want to do more with him in future, but if he is going to be a pain jumping outside its going to limit us. We can easily do up to 2ft 9 by about 3ft spreads in the school, but on grass its a whole nother story. He doesn't get upset or anything, hes just naughty - unless its an XC jump, then he is on missile lock!

Funnily enough, it's the other way round for me. Maybe it's because our school is an indoor and he's used to jumping in there and it's all too much trouble!
When he gets outdoor, he focuses on the jumps completely and does a really good job.
I put it down to so much outside stimuli that he thinks maybe it'd be best to look at the jumps instead!!

Daisy is much springier on grass. I haven't ridden her inside that often but she just switches off on a surface inside or out.

Hmm, See I thought it was meant to be the other way round! He is happy enough to play about when we are on grass - and galloping about as fast as he can. But he has never been that keen on jumping show jumps outside. I don't think he is actually that used to it - despite that being a year now that he has had to do it.

Also, he isnt so keen on the plastic jumps and he favours the more traditional looking ones over them. But then I do to.

I think I may just have to adopt a firmer attitude on grass. He has only slipped once jumping on grass..........but he has slipped numerous times in the school

I think its only me who has the issue rather than my horses! I am happier jumping indoors than out (which seems to be the opposite of most people), so therefore I feel my horses go better in. But TBH mine go pretty much the same either way, they just FEEL better inside!

Mine has only jumped indoors twice, as far as I know, and was absolutely brilliant. A little 'fired up' but nothing awful. Outdoors he gets distracted a lot more.
