We were having a conversation at the yard about jumping arenas and the topic of woodchip surfaces came up.

I said i wouldnt really want to jump on woodchip in case a piece went in the hoof but someone else thought it would be okay.

What do you think?

We have woodchip. I like it. Especially as I would choose it over sand.
Pro - It's very small chips and soft as anything. Springy too. Lots of us have jumped on it and no problems.
Con - Can get slippery when wet (needs really good drainage). Does rot eventually. Needs topping up more often.

we've got a woodchip school and its fine, but agree that it can be slippery when wet - ours can get really really deep too :(
