cant do trailblazers.

can do BSJA but not going to.

is there anything else i can do ? I'd like to have something to aim for in 2007...we're i can qualify for finals etc etc

Any idea's or shall i just stick to local fun shows where my pony squashing will go unnoticed?

Yeah, you can do RC and try to qualify for the champs next year. I went with my 14.2hh a few years ago (as a senior). I also qualifed for the trailblazers finals on him but was then told I wasnt eligible due to his height even though Id asked the centres holding the qualifiers if I could and they said yes.......

You are limited which is a very sad shame. Someday, hopefully seniors on ponies will be allowed to do more! I was in an club called the PRA, The Pony Riders Association which ran like points systems so every year there'd be a SJ Champion out of the whole of the UK etc. (you just kept competition results which were signed by the secretary at the show your at). I did get reserve SJ champ the only year I was in it! Not sure if its still around though.....

I'm pretty sure for RC area qualifier's, that is RC's affiliated to British Riding Clubs, the minimum height for a senior on a pony is 14hh.
UK Chasers is the only thing I can think of

thanks for the cricklands link i will look at that

Quote from trail blazers rules : SHOW JUMPING
Eligibility
Seniors Classes open to horses over 148cms. Therefore equines of 148cms are not eligible for this senior competition.

Coedcae - my god you are joking!! RC was one of the only things i thought i could do!!!

I have jumped a UK Riders qualifier (did a lovely double clear but was slow compared to the wizzy kids on mental ponies, not bad for first time out together tho!) but the course was really bad - i was hoping as it was a qualifier for something the course would be of a better standard than most local shows, but it was actually worse!

I haven't got the rule book here with me, but will check for you when I get home. But I'm pretty sure that is right, this is just the Area Qualifiers though, you should be able to do all the other competitions your RC organises.

thanks!! Another thing i can put on my list of can't do's by the sound of it then!! beginning to wish i bought a blimmin horse!!

my pony can jump to a horses stride which is what i find annoying about trailblazers etc not allowing under 148's for "safety reasons".

wont mention any names but have a friend who has wicked 14.2 and she is in her 30's like I am (rider that is!).

Trailblazers quote the safety thing and she had huge arguments with them over the striding issue and their "supposed health and safety issues". However, the centre where she qualified had no idea that ponies and adults could not qualify so why give her the rosette and card.

Its sour grapes in my opinion, if an adult they can sign a disclaimer anyway, and as far as health and safety and striding on a horses stride, any pony usually works out the striding on their own! - a lot better than a horse will.

Its pants!!

UK Riders definately fairer and better than Trailblazers and although its harder to qualify, think the finals are better too!

ooo i like special rossettes as people say im a bit special!!

i looked @ cricklands website - i think it fantastic they have "senior on ponies" classes !! woohoo!
it says in their list of venues that qualifiers are held at 4 venues fairly local to me (towerlands, norton heath, felbridge, and limes farm) so i will look forward to that next year!!

I enquired with Trailblazers and this was their [extremely helpful] response....

>Thank you for your enquiry, I think our rule is explained in the FAQ's that you have copied. I do not know what the BSJA rule is but that is nothing to do with Trailblazers. Is it something like you have to nominate whether your 14.2 is a pony or a horse and then it has to stay in that category?
>Every competition has its rules and we have to draw the line somewhere, and because of the different stride length between horses and pones that is why we have the rule.

To be honest, while I sympathise with your plight, I can fully understand what they are saying. It would be hard enough for a 14.2hh pony to make horse distances (thus you don't see very many ponies jumping seniors at BSJA events), but on a 13.1hh it would quite frankly be impossible

so we cant do anything then ??

....thats what i mean, giving that response [whilst i half agree with you, but every horse and pony are different so i dont like to generalise] is like shuvving adults on ponies to one side !! ....there ponies cant make the stride so we wont let them compete for safety reasons.....ok thats fine....but give us something else !!! give us a seperate class then! yes it may not get as full - im not saying run them every week but every other month or something i think would be very popular.

i have put this topic up on quite a few forums and the general response has been dissapointment from riders that want to SJ more compeitively than local level but are prevented from doing so

As I said before, I do sympathise with you...but, most show centres / governing bodies do things on the basis of cost-justification. They probably don't feel there is enough of a call for that sort of class to make it worthwhile.

You say you have posted elsewhere and got a positive response to the idea. I don't know how you might go about this, but what about getting a group of like-minded people together and starting your own competitions !? I know most show centres will hire out their facilities for a fee, and if you could get enough people together it might work

Let's face it, Trailblazers was started as an alternative to the BSJA by *someone*....why shouldn't you become *someone else* who starts something along the same lines but for adults on ponies (there's an acronym there already......similar to OAP's lol!

). Just a thought

magic melon found it finally!! http://www.ponyriders.org.uk/pages/home.asp

If you're a Senior on a pony in RC qualifiers, your pony definately has to be a minimum of 14hh I'm afraid.

But you can compete in all RC non qualifier classes on any size pony (unless stated in the rules for that class otherwise). How about competing for your RC points competition. Is your pony Registered with any Society? Some do Performance points to work towards.

Do you show? Seniors can ride ponies in M&M Classes such as WHP can't they?

I had the same problem with my girlie when she was younger as I initially didn't think she was going to make over 14hh, so that meant no RC qualifiers etc. Eventually she grew just over 14.2hh. We went to the first Trailblazers Champs in 2001 (I think) where the girl who won the Senior 95cm and 105cm was on a pony about 14hh. At the time no one really knew the rules, so she got away with it. I believe she put that the pony was 14.2hh on her entry, but when the 'powers that be' checked with the BSJA to see if the pony had been registered, it had, and was recorded as being 13.3hh or 14hh!! As it was the pony was blimmin brilliant, and won both Champs classes - so I don't know what the problem was.

They tightened up the rules after that, because the original selling point of Trailblazers was ANY RIDER ON ANY HORSE. Then when the Champs came up, they were a bit more strict, but of course they'd already issued qualification cards to those horses and riders who had gone double clear so it was a bit difficult to withdraw them.

Only 10yrs ago, we all jumped our neds over whatever we came across Unaff. Nobody took any notice over whether the striding was 'Horse' or 'Pony' - you just did it! Now we live in a chronic Health & Safety culture nothing goes!
