I have a Saddle Company saddle which my horse loves. It's the endurance one (we ride miles in the summer) and is ok to jump and do dressage in. I tried a friend's Pessoa jumping saddle today, and though I found it the most uncomfy thing known to man to sit in, it made jumping so amazingly EASY!

So, would love a jumping saddle! Funds not enormous so would be second hand. Are they all as uncomfy as the Pessoa? Anyone had a Saddle Company one?

And how on earth do you do the flatwork part of a warm-up in a jumping saddle? I found it sooo hard to balance with my feet pulled forward by the stirrups! Do you do it all in a light seat?

Lol! I love Pessoa's, but yes there are quite hard, although some of the older ones arent quite as bad!! The saddle company ones to me just look like GP's, but I havent tried one. Re. the flatwork, you need to find one which helps you balance, not one that puts you out of balance, so you may need a less "specialist" one. I have an ideal single flap saddle which is lovely as is wool flocked so good for my horses back, and single flapped so nice and close contact for me! Its just trial and error....

I fit Saddle Company saddles and the two models I recommend (and have myself for both of mine) are the dressage and the event.

The event is much better than the GP and you can hack and do flatwork in it. The close contact is much flatter and therefore only to be used for jumping - you couldnt hack etc in it.

Problem is, events are rarely for sale second hand so I think you will find it easier to get a GP.

I do alot of flat work in mine - as often will do the odd bit whilst im out hacking in fields etc with youngsters.
I didnt pay the earth for mine - well under £1000!! made to fit both me and horse and again flocked rather than air/latex etc so alterable, can ride in it all day - no saddle sores and sesitive backed horse is happy as a pig in muck
have a look see at Fusion saddles (google them)

I chose to trade in my gp for a patriot jumping saddle (made by stirlingshire saddlery) it and haven't yet got a dressage saddle, so I hack, school and do dressage in mine, as well as jump. It is soooo comfy and doesn't push my leg too far forward. They are about £1200 new, but I got mine for £650 in black suede.

I must say if you felt that unbalenced get a gp not a jumping saddle !!

I have a pessoa and a prestige - both fantastic and i cant ride elementary moves in both !!

I would disagree with that. it's just a case of finding a jumping saddle that fits you and your horse. I rode in several where the thigh roll was too low for my short legs and interfered too much with my lower leg pushing me into a chair seat. The john whitaker one was horrendous for me. I felt insecure and ineffective and was 'lost' in it so to speak.

With the patriot it's supportive, but doesn't interfere. There are about 5 people at our yard with them now, all different heights and it seems to suit everyone no matter the length of leg, I'm a 28", compared to yo who must be about a 34". don't know what it is, but they got it right. Everyone who has them is happy to hack, school and jump in theirs, althuogh a few have got dressage saddles too.

my daughter has had both the pessoa and prestige and she found the prestige slightly more comfortable, but loved them both

I have a pessoa on my pony, very hard, have to wear a seat saver to ride out, but great for jumping and pony jumps fantastic wearing it. I have a Keiffer for my big mare. It is the most comfy saddle I have ridden in and you can take the blocks off if you want to school etc. It also has an adjustable tree so you can get one that fits your horse perfectly. It is a fantastic saddle if you need to feel secure, my mare has an unbelievable back end and used to unseat me a lot until I got this saddle. Would recommend.
