So Saturday afternoon brought the turn of arena hire with my 4yo, Rio. He's grown up a lot recently, still as sharp as a knife but getting some decent work out of him along side that! He is very green but I would really like to take him to the Arena uk showjumping festival at the end of September, I think if nothing else it would be great experience for him.
Anyway we arena hired near us in the gale force winds and he had 10 mins being a bit of a dork but then settled well, popping around a course nicely and even jumping planks and an arrowhead filler (after some convincing) The arguments about jumping fillers are getting shorter now, so I hope they will soon be gone for good! I was really pleased with him.
Still lots to work on,he rushes combinations and his shape isn't the best, so lots of poles and grids for him at home but I can't complain for a very green 4yo.
Then yesterday I took gracie jumping for the first time since Northcote. I only did the BN and Disco due to her not doing anything in ages! Only being 5, she goes green easily when she hasn't been out in a while.
She was a bit stuffy in the BN, but still jumped sweetly enough for a DC and 6th place, so won a pretty!
Then we jumped the disco and I asked for a bit more pace from her and she really stepped up to the mark in the jump off, we was 7th to go and she set the standard being DC in 36.99 seconds, however the second to last horse to go went DC in 36.45 and beat us! Still absolutely over the moon with how she stepped up when asked though, she never fails to amaze me. So we came home with a 6th&2nd rossette and some prize money to boot
Apologise for the awful quality pics, the screenshot from the video never comes out well!
