Jumping white fence horse eater monster

Hi!

So yesterday in lesson we got almost eaten by white fence horse eating monster!
This monster appeared to be tasty when approached as we tried to bite it buttt when jumping it again tried to eat us because light shined diffrently on it!!

In all seriousnes how to deal with horse that isnt afraid from fence when approaching from ground but is afraid when jumping it?

We jumped it but sideways all 4 times

We had a pony at the RS that would jump coloured fences when it was overcast but refuse point blank if the sun came out. I can only think the white was just too bright for his eyes.

No, he wasn't a jumping pony anyway and wasn't usually jumped. Just happened one day that I found he would then tried to show my boss by which time the sun had come out and he didn't want to know. I was basically told off for trying. This was late 60's so a long time ago. Never affected him in any other way and it was just guess work on my part.
