I am entering a 'jumping with style' competition and i have been told that it consists of showjumping and xc jumps however i'm not sure what the rules are dress code ect and what do i actually have to do in the ring? any tips on how to ride it please?

The riders are usually in tweed, coloured stock or shirt and tie.

The course starts with SJs then you continue on to a round of XC style fences, the XC should be ridden in a more forward way and style marks will be given for both parts, you should show a clear difference between your two ways of riding.

The XC fences may include offset combinations, skinnies, corners depending on what the venue can provide and can be quite tricky, I think the XC is timed but not sure how, it may be an optimum, you would need to check on the rules it is being run under.

I thought for JAS you wore xc colours?

thankyou :) its is interschools at southview 95cm

For schools you don't have to show canter on both reins. You wear whatever your school team wears for eventing (ours wear their rugby shirts with shirts/ties underneath), body protectors etc.

You have to show a distinct difference in your jumping style between the SJ and the XC bits - ie go into a light XC seat once you're through the first half, shorten your reins, go at eventing pace, jump on an angle (if you can). As long as there is a difference of some sort, you should be fine.

Good luck!
