I would recommend for XC the Ecogold boots and you could SJ in them as well. the way they wrap around without a VERY hard strike pad helps protect but stops the rubs you can get
I SJ both without boots currently, one is a little careless and the other has tendon history with previous home.
for XC both wear Ecogold, the best boots out there in my opinion.
if I want to boot for SJ (which is only on an over careful horse) they wear the Ecogold then as well.
I think differently don't use boots, as it may be creating more damage than you think. If you are concerned, I would suggest using 'Horze' boots (I use and they are amazing - they are nice and fitting but not like a 'firm feel' which my horse absolutely hates). They are also affordable and good quality. Another good brand I use especially on XC is HKM Equestrian, but only use as back boots because (I have never tried there front boots) and I feel I don't want to change the front boots if Horze boots fit good!
