thought id tell you because im very happy

so the jumps were out and i decided to do some jumping, worked her over a cross pole a few times, and she jumped it lovely... then went from that cross pole on a dogs leg to jump the 2nd part of a combination, which she flew... in the middle, i sat back, gave her a half halt, collect and then pushed on

then jumped a related distance, and the second part had some bright fillers next to it, which she slowed at; but i was ready and squeezed and she flew that too

then i went to jump an upright on the diaganol and that had some fillers next to it aswell, she stopped the first time, which was my fault as i didnt have her between my hand and leg enough, but the second time she went great

then went onto a double, which she didnt bat an eyelid at i was very happy

she flew round the course really nicely, jumped everything in control and on the right bend

no tanking off, bouncing sideways

i then put one of the cross poles up to an upright (about 2'6/2'9) biggest ive jumped her, first time she was great... came in, i saw a nice stride, took a check and she went nicely over it

second time she got a bit het up, threw her head and decided she was cantering, i kind of lost a bit of control, and asked for a check, but she stopped... i went over her head

once back on i went to try it again, but she refused and got het up... my fault as she sensed i was tense, this happened twice more, and then i went get a grip sophie, trotted around for a bit, got the contact and control, asked for canter round the corner, and saw my stride, gave a check and she flew it again

so i stopped

to start with i trotted her over the cross pole once or twice, but decided that wasnt a good idea as she doesnt really know how to jump from a trot, everything else after that i cantered into.

we had a lovely rythmical canter, despite being slightly strong in places and i really enjoyed myself, the jumps were slightly lower than usual, and had no fillers in. but i took peoples advice and decided to work on smaller first

during the week i had jumped her once, but only twice over the cross pole and then i worked her around the jumps the rest of the week, and had her collected working in an outline and listening

it really clicked yesterday when i was jumping, i wasnt fighting as much and i was confident...

despite my fall i think we made progress

thats great news

one thing tho...just make sure that you aren't putting in too many 'checks' before your fence as that possibly might be why she stopped with you...but it would be hard to see without watching you ride!

just a friend said, when she came to help me at a competition if you see where shes going to take off, take a check just before that point so she doesnt go long and over jump me

hmmm....i've never heard that TBH...i like to do all my half halting and balancing on the straights and then sit as quietly as possible before the actual fence...but like i say hard to explain through a forum!! could you have some lessons with an instructor to help improve your confidence further (tho sounds like you're doing a great job so far

yes ive had one showjumping lesson with wilma, but gcses at the minute are stopping regular lessons
she is a bhs qualified instructor, but has taught me more for dressage and control, and she rides dressage

im going for a richard barton clinic next week

and after exams im going to join pony club and see if i can get even more tution

steps and thoughts are in place for more lessons, just havent had chance to organise it

i dont think i half halted at every fence, just when i knew she could take it long or miss a stride...

mum doesnt like me to be fussy with my hands
and my instructor yells at me if i am :L
