jumping

Hi, there is no maximum height your pony should jump, it all depends on what pony is capable and confident of jumping and if you are secure in the saddle and confident to jump him. I have had 14 hh ponys clear 4 foot courses, some will do 5 feet, though this is rare. Would say average would be 3-3.6. Hope this helps, and by the way, how high do you jump?

It depends on a number of factors:

- Your ability
- Pony's previous experience
- Pony's age
- Pony's health - any previous lameness issues...

I've seen a 14.1hh connie quite happily competing at BE Novice level, so fences at 1m 10ish. Some ponies can jump incredibly high for their size so having a pony shouldn't be a limiting factor.

It varies so much. My loan pony is 14.2hh but has jumped 5ft, but I know some ponies don't enjoy it as much, or aren't as naturally able to so they stay lower. Ditto above really - it depends on so many things.

It depends on your horse.
My 14hh/14.hh chunky monkey pony jumped 3ft with me, but he has jumped out of his field before we bought him, and that was a five bar gate well over 4ft, although he did fail and skinned his leg

I was talking to a woman the other day in Newmarket, she rides out for a few racing yards part time, but her first pony was an arab x highland, 13.2hh. She told me that when she outgrew him she loaned him to someone she knew for his children, but when they were away at school she'd go down to ride the pony some days. One day she threw her racing saddle on him and was jumping the racing hurdles on him on the gallops!! o.o So like... 5ft+ fences complete with open ditches!! eeek!! Can't imagine, I'd be terrified! xD

Stroller and Theodore O'Connor never had issues with huge fences and they were under 14.2hh!
