Ok so Ive got Buddy (5yr old) only had him 3 months, sand school newly finished so only been riding him properly for a couple of weeks i have a jump and could probably make another one but I dont know wheather to bite the bullet and just take him to a local show at the end of feb or wait until may and save up some money for jumps in the mean time.
He has jumped before (was doing very well) before I bought him, do you think this would be too much or shal I just take him and see how he gets on?

I would say take it slow and be sure before you do anything. He's a baby, and you have the whole of your lives ahead of you!

Maybe just take him to soak up the atmosphere and see how he'll react? THen you won't run the risk of overloading him with all that exciting environment and also having to work.

We're in same boat with one of daughters 2, he's 6 and we've just got him a couple of weeks after you, hardly ridden him due to the weather, but we don't actually think he has done quite as much as we'd been told. So if he goes to a show next month he'll first off be going just as a passenger and company for her other one so we can see how he reacts to being at a show. He has a lot to learn and I'd rather he came on slowly, calmly and enjoys it, rather than overload him and spoil him for later (has a tendency to get eyes on stalks as it is).
