I need help with what to enter.

Pony and child have just been registered so have done NOTHING BSJA yet. Pony is 148cm

Arena UK have Juniors on 21 and 22 June.

I'm confused as to what to enter them in.

I'm thinking on 21 June Arena 1 class 4 Junior Open. its 1m. and/or Arena 2 Class 6 Junior Discovery/90cm Junior Open.

Then on 22 June in Arena 2 there is Junior Discovery/90cm Junior Open.

Would these be ok for a first time out or should she just do the 22 June Discovery?

There doesn't appear to be a Junior Novice class.

This BSJA lark is very confusing what with Table this and Rule that etc !!!!!!!!

In seniors actual winnings at open count for much more notional than BN, disco etc winnings. If you want to keep pony at lower levels for a while try not to win at open (the open classes are VERY competitive as you get very experienced ponies in them)

id stick with the jnr open n disco then... the open will be highly contested as there tends to be no restriction on winnings so are likely to come up against some relatively experienced ponies.... in the disco youw ill be up against more likely partnerships x

That's the weekend of the premier. There will be millions there.

So do you think maybe we should give it a miss as it would be our first one?

I personally would not go to a premier show as our first aff. show for my daughter, I would start with a small show with jnr british novice or 70 & 80 opens on the schedule, the prize money will be higher at a premier show if you were to get placed, and your child would benefit from winning as little as possible to start with, the courses and atmosphere are harder to do than unaf, the courses are likely to be up to height too, I would go along and watch and see for yourselves before taking pony/ies!

Yes, I think you're right. We are doing unaffiliated at the moment every weekend and getting placed. So I will pick our first affiliated venue carefully!

if the rider is inexperienced it is better to start smaller. my sister does BSJA and she is only just turned 13. she started off with the small opens 85 and 90 and now they are jumping newcomers and fox. it takes time bsja as the courses are built so much differently to those unaffiliated. they generally try to catch you out, to test the horse and the riders ability
hope this helps
