Hi everyone, just a catch up as haven't done one for ages! Sorry for the lack of pictures - my mum struggles watching XC let alone remembering to take photos
With the Easter holidays, been doing lots with Reggie. First Saturday was a Pony Club SJ clinic - hoping to do teams this year so we're doing as much as we can. Reggie went very nicely - in with the big boys which was a bit worrying
. While everyone was jumping 1.10 ish, a friend and I had to ask for the jumps down a couple of holes. Starting to make everything more difficult for Reggie with more 'jump-off' turns, skinnies, bounces, doubles, trebles etc which has been going well.
Last Monday we had a XC clinic at Herringswell with Sharon Hunt - this place is amazing, so jealous of them!!!!! (the course is private and essentially in their back garden!) Really enjoyed this, a great way to get him out again and Sharon was great!
A week before we had a hunter trial to round off the hunting season. Fairly disastrous with a head-smashing fall and a grumpy, concussed rider
.
The XC had to be braved again with a Pony Club rally last Thursday. Successful flatwork and fairly good XC. Fell off again - I seem to be cursed! It was mostly my fault - you know when you don't really want to jump something but everyone else is so you do as well. Learnt my lesson about doing that
.
Had an eventer trial this weekend. One stop in the SJ but a clear XC. I need to learn to spend more time/have a more productive warm up! However, we must have had a fair time as we were 4th which was a welcome surprise
.
Schooling at Little Downham today with the Pony Club - very enjoyable and useful. We jumped most of the BE90 stuff there which was good. I hadnt done a huge amount of XC this year with Reggie so I was chuffed! However, XC curse came back at the end. For those who dont know Little Downham, there's a small roll top in the water. Reggie was not impressed by this and 2 times chose to scramble up the rocky/stoney bit there. This unfortunately resulted in scrapped back legs the second time, so we finished there. Hosed them off at the trailer twice and when we got home. It doesnt look too bad, its not actually that deep so hopefully he'll be fixed up again soon. Don't know why he preferred the idea of scrambling over the bank rather than jumping this little jump but that's horses for you!!
I'll give him a rest and hopefully he wont be too stiff in the morning!
Lesson learnt there is remembering that horses arent machines and there are bad days, with hopefully more good. How's everyone doing? I've been enjoying everyone's reports, I think my favorite forum horse at the moment must be Dottie - she looks so sweet!! Hope everyone's going well and have a great Easter/Bank Holiday break!! and keep the reports coming - they're helping me through AS revision
Thanks, and please excuse all my waffling !
