well it seems my vets instincts were right, mare has arthritic changes in both front legs, luckily no sign of navicular or anything else but I suppose at least I now know.

Vet has put her on collagen joint supplement and advised to give bute as and when she needs it. If gets worse maybe will need injections.

Feel awful as I should have picked up something months ago when she was a bit off on the near fore, poor mare has probs been having discomfort for a while now :(

off to pour myself a jack daniels ... I have def had better days !

I had the same with a mare I looked after, slightly lame on and off and I treated it with rest and danilon. She recovered each time. On the third time I called for X-rays with the same diagnosis. They cope so well until its bad dont they. I felt bad for her but it could have been so many things. Now you know then u can give her what she needs when she needs it x

thanks for that, I just feel so bad cos shes a trooper and to be honest if she broke a leg and we still had a fence to jump shed prob try to carry on lol shes such a tough cookie, altho vet said its not a bad case yet and we can still do a decent workload with management, I just feel so bad that when I had the gut feeling she was not quite right I didn't act on it, it took her to go lame for me to realise :(

hopefully with vets advice etc we can still go on and keep her active, its just hard cos she had such a bad past, neglected abused etc and we have built such a bond now (took a year for her to trust me) and we were going great guns, she was really enjoying getting out and doing stuff!

But suppose at least we know whats going on and she can be as comfortable as possible :)
